Amazon has a great deal on the LEGO Back to the Future DeLorean time machine set (1872 pieces, #10300) – it’s currently $170, which is 30% off. However, LEGO is releasing a new Back to the Future Speed Champions set (#77256) on January 1st as part of a large collection of over 150 new sets, and it’s expected to be even more affordable.
The Build

The LEGO Back to the Future Time Machine set (Speed Champions #77256) includes 5 numbered bags, stickers, extra pieces, and instructions. Because it doesn’t have many parts, it’s a relatively quick build – about 90 minutes – and features some interesting and clever design choices. You can even use the LEGO Builder app to build it with a friend!
The time machine can be set up to look like versions seen in different movies. You can choose the original look from the first film, complete with the lightning rod, or the flying version with the Mr. Fusion device from Back to the Future Part II. Switching between driving and flying modes involves changing a few parts. While the wheels can be a little tricky, the conversion is generally straightforward.

As you’ll see in the pictures, the minifigures fit easily into the cockpit. Notable details include the flux capacitor, time calculator, the “OUTATIME” license plate, and other fun features.
I won’t go into all the details of how it’s built – I want to leave some of the enjoyment for you! – but I found the process to be really satisfying. It felt like the right amount of work and complexity for a project like this.
Conclusion

I absolutely love the finished product! The level of detail on this small set is incredible, especially when you compare it to the original LEGO Ideas DeLorean Time Machine Set #21103 from 13 years ago – it really shows how much LEGO has improved. This Back to the Future Speed Champions set looks fantastic, and at just $27.99, I wouldn’t be shocked if it becomes one of the best-selling sets of 2026 (it’s currently sold out on Amazon as a pre-order). Even if you already have the larger #10300 set, this one is worth getting – it’s arguably more enjoyable at this smaller scale, and the included alternate minifigures let you create a display that’s closer to the original movie.
