The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been changing a lot lately. Some movies and TV shows that were planned have been changed or canceled, while new projects have been added. Because of this, certain characters and storylines have been put on hold for years. One franchise, in particular, has been significantly altered from its original plan as a major introduction of a new character to the MCU.
Benedict Cumberbatchās Doctor Strange is the character in focus. The first Doctor Strange movie, released in 2016, successfully launched a new franchise and showcased a popular actor. That initial film introduced storylines, like Mordoās pursuit of rogue sorcerers, that havenāt been resolved even now, a decade later. The sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, complicated things further, ending with Doctor Strange trapped in the Dark Dimension as of 2022. Despite this, plans for a Doctor Strange spinoff show were once proposed, and recent reports suggest itās still being developed.
Marvelās Strange Academy TV Show Reportedly Still In Development

According to Marvel insider Daniel RPK, development of the Strange Academy TV series is moving forward again at Marvel Television. While Amy Rardin, who worked on Echo, was previously writing the show, they are now looking for a new writer or writing team to take on the project.
I’ve been hearing about Strange Academy for a while now ā ever since the Multiverse of Madness movie came out! At first, it sounded like it would follow Wong and America Chavez, showing her learning magic at Kamar-Taj, maybe even continuing the story from the movie. But earlier this year, it seemed like Marvel decided to put the project ā along with Nova and others ā on hold, which was really disappointing for Doctor Strange fans like me. Now, as we’re nearing the end of 2025, things are looking up! There were whispers at Comic-Con that Nova might still happen, and now it sounds like Strange Academy isnāt completely canceled either! Sadly, it doesnāt seem like Terror Inc. is so lucky, but Iām really excited about the possibility of seeing Strange Academy finally come to life.
Strange Academy (Reboot) Is A Smart Move for the MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is at a point where it needs to expand its world by exploring different areas and characters, but still connect everything to whatās already been established. After the interesting Werewolf by Night special, Marvel didnāt follow up by developing its supernatural side further with projects like Blade or new shows and specials building on that world. They shouldnāt repeat this mistake with Strange Academy (or Nova, either), and should build on any promising new directions they introduce.
Marvel needs to focus more on its magical and cosmic elements, and it should do so quickly. After the upcoming Avengers movies, when the universe is rebooted, a TV series about young magic users training to become powerful masters ā potentially even the next Sorcerer Supreme ā would appeal to a broad audience. The positive reaction to Agatha All Along and the character Wiccan proves there’s already interest in this type of show.
A recent comic series, Strange Academy (2020-2022), featured Doctor Strange and other Marvel magic users starting a school for young sorcerers. This included students who practiced dark magic and even the children of famous villains like Dormammu. This idea would easily fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and could make for a long-running, exciting, and significant TV show.
It would be a smart move to eventually feature characters like Billy, America Chavez, Wong, Agatha, and Wanda in a Strange Academy show. This would open the door to introducing many new characters from the comics that haven’t appeared in the MCU yet. Plus, the show could resolve loose ends from the Doctor Strange movies, like what happened to Mordo, the mysteries of the Dark Dimension, and Strange’s rescue. This kind of high-quality, connected spinoff is exactly what the MCU needs to expand its storytelling.
