Life Is Strange: Reunion Revives One of Gaming’s Iconic Relationships on PS5

As a huge fan of the first Life is Strange, I think the way the story wrapped up really put Square Enix in a tough spot. They’ve been trying to figure things out ever since, and it’s been clear they’ve struggled with where to go next.

DONTNOD, the developers of Life Is Strange 2, chose to feature a new set of characters, but the relationship between brothers Sean and Daniel didn’t resonate with players as strongly as the connection between Max and Chloe in the first game.

The studio Deck Nine reimagined the character of Alex for Life Is Strange: True Colors, creating a story that only has a slight connection to the happenings in Arcadia Bay.

Although the author enjoyed the game, fans strongly requested the return of the original characters. As a result, the development team at the Colorado studio created Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, which features an adult version of Max.

Life Is Strange: Reunion is bringing Chloe and Max’s friendship back to life, and the game uses the dual timelines of Double Exposure to show how Chloe is able to return.

Small spoilers follow, so be warned.

Basically, when Max combined the timelines in Double Exposure, she also revived Chloe if you chose to sacrifice her at the end of the first Life Is Strange game. The game’s story will change depending on that choice, but that’s how the developers are handling it.

The new game is scheduled to release on March 27th and features Max as a photography instructor at Caledon University. However, when she returns after a brief time away, she discovers the university is ablaze.

Chloe will return with the ability to rewind time, and she’ll use this power to uncover the truth behind the university’s mysterious events.

Rhianna DeVries, who previously voiced Chloe in Before the Storm, will reprise her role, once again taking over from Ashly Burch, the original voice actress.

Players will be able to control both Max and Chloe. Max can rewind time, and Chloe has a ‘Backtalk’ ability, which works like the dialogue challenges in the previous game, Before the Storm.

You can decide if the two characters fall in love again or just stay friends. Plus, you’ll have to work to protect the students of Caledon University.

It seems Deck Nine is trying too hard to satisfy fans with their writing, and we’ll reserve our final opinion until we’ve had a chance to play the game.
