Lindsey Vonntraded her skis for high heels—and a special dress.
The Olympic gold medalist made a triumphant return to the Met Gala, over a decade after her last appearance, following months of recovery and multiple leg surgeries from a serious crash at the Milano Cortina Olympics earlier this year.
The 41-year-old embraced the “Fashion is Art” theme with a stunning white mermaid gown adorned with beads and a dramatic tulle ruffle. She completed her look with an elegant black and gold cane for support as she climbed the steps.
Lindsey shared with Zuri Hall during Live From TopMob: Met Gala 2026 that she was feeling beautiful, and revealed it took 4,000 hours to create her dress.
As for the Olympian’s mindset for fashion’s biggest night?
She added that she was incredibly grateful. There were times she wasn’t sure what the future held, so reaching this point feels particularly meaningful, and she’s very thankful for it.
Lindsey has been to the Met Gala before, a famous fashion event co-hosted this year by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams. She last attended in 2013 with her then-partner, Tiger Woods. They both chose classic black-tie outfits instead of following the event’s punk-rock theme.
Before that, the skier graced the 2010 Met Gala, which celebrated the fashion of American women.
This year’s Met Gala appearance was a celebratory comeback for her, following a broken leg she sustained in a February accident.
Lindsey recently shared that she almost lost her leg because of a condition called compression syndrome. Thankfully, she recovered quickly and was back performing at the Metropolitan Opera just a few months later, demonstrating how far she’s come in her recovery.
Oh my gosh, you guys, she’s not giving up! It’s incredible! Everyone thought that awful ACL tear right before the Olympics meant we’d never see her compete again, but she just said in an interview that she’s already dreaming of racing again! She told Today that she feels like she didn’t get a proper ending, didn’t get to have that final run she deserved, and honestly, she’s leaving the possibility of a comeback open! I’m seriously losing it – this is amazing news! It’s like she’s saying goodbye isn’t forever goodbye, and I can’t even handle how much I love that!

Despite feeling alone after her injury, she believes being back in public will aid her healing process, and walking the Met Gala red carpet is a positive move forward.
She explained on Today that things didn’t quite work out as she’d hoped with her Olympic aspirations. She needs to get back to everyday life – walking around, being among people, and just living – and she believes that will help her see things in a new way.
