Lionel Richie has endless love for his grandbabies.
Oh my gosh, can you believe it’s already been a month since Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge had their little boy, Henry?! I’m completely obsessed, and I was living for what Sofia’s dad, Lionel Richie, said about being a grandpa! He talked about Henry and his adorable big sister, Eloise, who’s almost two – 23 months, to be exact! It just makes my heart melt thinking about them all!
Lionel shared his joy with TopMob News at the King’s Trust gala in New York City on April 29th, saying, “It means a lot to me that Pop Pop is here.”
The singer, who’s a very involved grandparent, joked that Sofia and Elliot are now hoping he’ll spend a little less time with the new baby.
As someone who’s seen a lot of life, let me tell you, being a grandparent is truly the greatest reward. For me, watching my grandkids – Harlow, Sparrow, and of course, Nicole and Joel’s kids – grow up has been more fulfilling than any achievement I’ve ever experienced. It’s a joy I wouldn’t trade for anything.
In 2024, after Sofia and Elliot had their daughter, Lionel jokingly told TopMob in October, “She’s so small, I could carry her around in my pocket! It’s incredible.”
Lionel, who has two children – Sofia and Miles Richie (31) – with his former partner Diane Alexander, recently reminisced about the first time he met each of his grandchildren.
He chuckled, remembering when a baby’s leg feels like a little drumstick and you can’t help but kiss it. He apologized, then added, “It’s just that moment when you gently blow on their tummy and they instantly smile.”
And it’s been a joy watching Sofia, 27, step up as mom to Henry and Eloise.
He playfully told TopMob earlier in the year, ‘It sounds like your sleep schedule is a little messed up!’ He added that being a parent means you just have to embrace the chaos.
Becoming a mother has been a major change for Sofia, who married the CEO of Atlantic Records in 2023. She’s been learning and growing through all the joys and challenges of raising a child.
In a January 2024 interview with Vogue, she shared that the last six months had been more educational than her whole life, and she’s gained a new appreciation for the strength and capabilities of the female body.
She continued, explaining that our bodies are constantly changing – with things like hormones fluctuating and growth happening – and it’s fascinating to experience these processes.

She said that watching her daughter grow up has been the greatest joy of her life. She considers her daughter her biggest accomplishment, giving her life meaning and defining who she is.
