‘Looks Like We Got Sucker Punched’: Ghost of Yotei Fans Gutted Support Has Ended for Free Co-Op Mode

Sucker Punch Productions isn’t planning to add anything further to their free Ghost of Tsushima update, Legends, and some players are disappointed by this announcement.

The mode, which we described as “fantastic” in our initial hands on, launched on 10th March.

Just two months after its release, the Seattle-based development team announced they won’t be adding any new content to the cooperative campaign. However, the game will still be available to play online as it currently is.

Speaking with the PS Blog, Lead Designer Darren Bridges revealed:

The recent ‘Raid’ update is the final major update we have planned for Legends. It concludes the story arc for the Yotei Six within that game mode. We’re thrilled players have been enjoying it and continue to play, and we’ve really appreciated the support.

As the headline suggests, some people aren’t happy with the choice Sucker Punch made.

Many players are disappointed with the recent update. They feel that while they were excited for new characters, the gameplay quickly became stale. They also wish the developers had included more survival-style maps or increased the gear capacity to 120.

Someone else commented, saying they wouldn’t be purchasing the game because they couldn’t believe support was ending after just two months.

It’s understandable that some fans are disappointed not to receive new content, but it’s important to remember this mode is a free addition to an already substantial single-player game.

It’s unlikely Sucker Punch planned to support this feature for an extended period. While it’s uncommon for modern games, there’s value in a multiplayer experience you can enjoy briefly before trying something new.

Now that the Seattle team has finished up their current work, they’ll be starting a new, major project soon. And don’t worry, Legends isn’t going anywhere – you can continue playing it for the foreseeable future.

The expectation that games constantly need new updates and content is relatively recent, and even a game like Ghost of Yotei isn’t immune to it.
