Lord of the Rings RPG from Kingdom Come: Deliverance Dev Confirmed

Warhorse Studios, known for creating the Kingdom Come: Deliverance games, revealed today that they are working on a large, open-world role-playing game set in Middle-earth.

The recent announcement confirms long-standing rumors that the studio is developing a new game connected to the Kingdom Come universe. Warhorse Studios hints this upcoming adventure isn’t a direct sequel to the existing Deliverance games, as they didn’t mention that subtitle when sharing the news.

It will likely be a while before we hear anything new about either game. Warhose Studios mentioned both projects are still in the early stages of development, but they plan to share more information when they’re ready.

It will be fascinating to see how Warhorse Studios approaches its Lord of the Rings game. They’ve become known for games with very realistic details and complex systems – like needing to maintain your clothing and hygiene, and avoiding getting caught trespassing, as seen in their Kingdom Come: Deliverance games. These kinds of detailed mechanics aren’t typical in large, mainstream games, and a Lord of the Rings game would likely aim for a broad audience.

The project is being developed by a very talented RPG studio. Their previous game, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, was released last year and received incredible reviews, even earning a perfect 10/10 score from Push Square. We described it as a challenging, unique, and captivating experience.

While earlier games based on The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were well-received, more recent titles, particularly those focusing on Gollum, haven’t lived up to expectations and have negatively impacted the overall perception of the series’ video game adaptations.
