As a huge Magic: The Gathering fan, I’ve been following the Universes Beyond sets – you know, the ones with characters from franchises like Doctor Who and Final Fantasy – with a lot of interest. While most have been great, the Spider-Man set had some real problems. But good news! Wizards of the Coast just announced details for the new Marvel Super Heroes set, and they’re promising to fix the biggest issues we saw with the last Marvel release, which is a huge relief. It sounds like they’ve really listened to feedback and are making things right going forward.
The Spider-Man Magic set received some criticism, particularly regarding its implementation in MTG Arena, the digital version of Magic: The Gathering. Initially, Wizards of the Coast announced that while the Spider-Man set would be available on Arena, it wouldn’t use the original card art. Instead, it would feature different artwork under the name Through the Omenpaths, and this approach was planned for all future Marvel sets. However, Wizards has since reached an agreement with Marvel, meaning the complete Spider-Man set, with its original artwork, will be available in MTG Arena. The upcoming Marvel Super Heroes set will also receive the same treatment.
This Is A Major Win For Magic, MTG Arena, and Marvel Fans

Okay, so the way Wizards handled the Marvel Universes Beyond cards in MTG Arena was kinda frustrating. We were getting the card effects, which was cool, but they didn’t use the awesome Spider-Man art we were all excited about! Honestly, the art was a huge part of why people wanted those cards, and it was a letdown to see it missing in the game.
Things were initially expected to become more complicated with the release of Marvel Super Heroes, but that issue has been resolved. Now, these sets will integrate smoothly with existing ones. You’ll be able to combine Marvel-themed starter Boosters and create cards for your decks. While the Beginner Box and Scene Boxes won’t be available on MTG Arena, the new cards from those sets will be playable there.
The powerful commanders featured on the cards in these four new Commander decks will also be available to create yourself. To make it even easier for new players, we’re adding preconstructed decks to the MTG Arena Store that include cards from the original Marvel Super Heroes set, though we’ll share more specifics about those decks later.

On June 16th, MTG Arena will be updated with everything from Marvel’s Spider-Man set! This includes all the Spider-Man cards, cards inspired by the Marvel’s Spider-Man game, new avatars, and spiderweb-themed basic lands. If you already own cards from the Through the Omenpaths set, you’ll automatically get the corresponding Marvel’s Spider-Man versions – and you’ll still keep your original Through the Omenpaths cards as alternate styles.
Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes will launch on MTG Arena on June 23, 2026.
