With the rapid development of AI, driven by massive investments from tech companies, there’s growing worry about the need for rules and oversight. This is to ensure the technology stays on track and doesn’t cause unintended harm to people.
Current security measures for this technology are very limited. But OpenAI, Anthropic, and Block have joined forces to create the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), a new organization that will focus on establishing clear guidelines and standards for building AI agents.
The Agentic AI Foundation was created as part of the Linux Foundation, the organization known for developing and supporting the Linux operating system and other open-source initiatives. The Linux Foundation provides both legal and technical guidance to projects like Agentic AI.

In addition, these companies are contributing their AI technology to help with this initiative. For example, Anthropic is giving full ownership of its Model Context Protocol (MCP) to the foundation. This will encourage a consistent method for linking AI models and agents to necessary tools and information.
OpenAI is giving its Agents.md project to a foundation, which will use it to establish guidelines for AI agents as they work with software and websites. Additionally, Block is making its Goose framework – used for building AI agents – publicly available. While these tools are already free, this move allows wider community involvement in their development, leading to improved features and more advanced capabilities.
While speaking to TechCrunch, OpenAI engineer Nick Cooper indicated:
To truly serve people, we need various ways of connecting and collaborating. Because of this need for open communication and diverse approaches, it’s unlikely that any single company will ever be able to do it all.

Cooper believes that standardized protocols are essential for enabling AI systems to communicate and collaborate seamlessly, reducing the need for constant human oversight. As Cooper explains, these open standards allow different companies and AI systems to easily exchange information and work together.
Srinivas Narayanan, CTO of B2B apps at OpenAI, believes AI programs are close to being able to communicate with each other while working on business tasks. He says that if AI developers follow similar standards when creating their AI models and programs, it will make this communication much more effective. Narayanan also emphasized the importance of open-source technology, stating, “Open source is going to play a very big role in how AI is shaped and adopted in the real world.”
The Agentic AI Foundation has a lot of potential in the rapidly changing world of artificial intelligence. Its focus on open access could help AI agents become more widely used in various industries. However, it’s still unclear if this will actually lead to more people using these core AI models.
