The highly anticipated anime adaptation of the popular manga series, Akane-banashi, has arrived and is already winning over fans with its compelling story and beautiful animation. As a major title from Weekly Shonen Jump, Akane-banashi was a standout in this season’s anime releases. Earlier this year, the official English X (formerly Twitter) account announced that promotional videos would be available on YouTube in multiple languages. This was surprising to many, as fans expected the series to stream on a major platform. The announcement also revealed that after its initial broadcast, full episodes will be available on YouTube for viewers in North America and Latin America.
Netflix recently shared more information about when viewers worldwide can watch the new anime. Last month, before the anime launched, the official Netflix Anime X account announced it would begin streaming in parts of Asia on April 5th. While a specific global release date isn’t set, it will be available on the platform starting in May. Both dubbed and subtitled versions will be offered. The anime has already premiered with two episodes, and its creator, Yue Suenaga, has shared his initial reactions.
Akane-banashi Creator Thanks Fans For the Support After Anime Debut

With each new chapter of the WSJ manga series, the author includes a special message for fans. Viz Media shares these notes, called “Mangaka Musings,” with readers worldwide. Yuki Suenaga, the creator of Akane-banashi, consistently posts there with each new release. Following the long-awaited anime premiere, Suenaga expressed his gratitude, saying, “The anime is finally here! Hooray! This is all thanks to your amazing support!”
Because the “Mangaka Musings” section is kept brief, Suenaga couldn’t share a detailed response to questions about the new anime. However, he’s pleased with how the anime is looking. He also expressed gratitude to fans for their years of support, which made the anime adaptation possible.
What Is Akane-banashi About?

The manga series started in 2022, and it took over four years before the anime adaptation became available to watch. The story follows Akane Osaki, a high school student determined to become a master of Rakugo, a traditional Japanese storytelling art. She’s been dreaming of this since she was a child, but she’s also trying to find out why her father was suddenly forced to leave his position years ago.
Akane’s father, Shinta Arakawa, was a highly respected Rakugo storyteller until he was unexpectedly dismissed right before achieving the top ‘shin’uchi’ rank. Now, in a Rakugo world largely dominated by men, Akane is determined to become a shin’uchi herself and clear her father’s name, believing he was unfairly treated by those in power.
