A character fans are eager to see again is the skilled pilot from the Resistance, Poe Dameron. Recently, Oscar Isaac, who plays Poe, spoke about a potential comeback.
In a chat with Variety, Isaac was queried about potentially returning to the distant galaxy of Star Wars. “Sure, I’d revisit Star Wars if there’s an interesting storyline,” the actor jokingly hinted at, nodding towards a Simpsons-inspired jest in his response.
Could Poe Dameron Return in a Future Star Wars Movie?
In addition to the New Jedi Order, there’s another upcoming Star Wars movie set around the same timeframe as the sequel trilogy, titled Star Wars: Starfighter. Directed by Shawn Levy, it is slated for release in May 2027. While specific plot details are yet to be revealed, we do know that the film takes place about five years after The Rise of Skywalker. Given this timeline and Poe’s significant role in the sequel trilogy, there’s a good chance he will still be active during the movie’s events. As the title suggests, Starfighter may involve fighter pilots, making Poe an ideal candidate, possibly as part of a new Republic working to restore order.
Certainly, one of the attractive aspects of the movie titled “Starfighter” is that it’s an independent production unrelated to the Skywalker Saga. Director Levy has gathered a remarkable group of actors, including Ryan Gosling, Mia Goth, and Matt Smith, but as of now, no actors from the sequel trilogy have been announced for the project. This could be a strategic move by both Levy and Lucasfilm, aiming to use Starfighter as a platform to showcase the unlimited storytelling possibilities within the galaxy far, far away. By focusing on new characters, they hope to propel Star Wars into fresh territories.
The ongoing project known as New Jedi Order has gone through several writers at Lucasfilm, with the narrative still being refined. It’s uncertain if Rey’s former comrades from the Resistance will join her on her next journey; however, Daisy Ridley herself recently expressed some doubt about this. When discussing the difficulties of revisiting Star Wars in New Jedi Order, Ridley mentioned she would be working with new actors for this installment. This isn’t a definitive statement that Isaac and/or John Boyega won’t appear, but it implies that Poe and Finn might not play significant roles in the tale’s development.
There’s potential for Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac, to rejoin the Star Wars universe, but it seems his return hinges on the quality of the project. He might not be keen on appearing merely for fan service, but he could if there’s an intriguing storyline to develop with the character. Regardless, Isaac’s captivating screen presence and acting skill made Poe a beloved character, and it would be exciting to see him take on a significant role in a future film.
