The popular fantasy series is coming back to Disney+ later this year, and the lead actor says viewers can expect some exciting updates. The show, which is based on a book series, originally launched in December 2023.
Walker Scobell, the star of the Percy Jackson series, recently discussed what fans can expect in Season 3 and how it will be different from what they saw in Season 2. The last season ended with Percy, Annabeth, and Grover preparing the demigods for a fight against Luke. After a battle, Clarisse used the Golden Fleece to heal Thalia’s tree, which surprisingly brought Thalia herself back to life.
As a huge fan of the Percy Jackson books, I was really excited to hear Walker Scobell talk about taking on the role. It’s cool that Rick Riordan, who created the whole world with his books, was so involved – he even helped Walker find his own take on Percy. Apparently, Logan Lerman, who played Percy in the earlier movies, gave him some great advice too. And the best part? Walker hinted at what we might see in Season 3, which has me totally hooked!
Playing Percy Jackson has been amazing so far! I’ve gotten so much support, which means a lot. Logan Lerman, who played Percy before, was really encouraging, and Rick Riordan, the author, has been incredibly supportive too. It’s just been a fantastic experience.
Scobell shared that he feels confident about Season 3, as it will showcase a side of Percy viewers haven’t seen before. He’s particularly excited because he feels he can truly make the role his own, building on the previous two movies, The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters. With The Titan’s Curse, he has the freedom to explore new creative territory and bring his own interpretation to the character.
A More ‘Mature’ Percy Jackson
Season 3 will have a more sophisticated feel, as the show begins to draw from book content that hasn’t been adapted for television before.
According to Scobell, Season 3 is a significant step up from the first two seasons, feeling more grown-up and geared towards an older audience. The ending of Season 2 really paved the way for this shift, as the creators anticipate viewers have matured along with the show.
He admitted to feeling some anxiety about the show venturing into new areas of the story. “I’m definitely a little nervous, but it’s a fantastic book to adapt for television because we haven’t had to cut much,” Scobell explained. He added that while some changes were made, the source material was already well-suited for a TV series. “That’s what I like most—I’ve rarely had to ask how something would work on screen because it closely follows the book.”
The third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is expected to arrive on Disney+ in 2026. You can currently watch the first two seasons on the streaming service.
