The upcoming Spider-Man movie, tentatively titled Brand New Day, appears to be drawing inspiration from the world of the X-Men as it sets up Tom Holland’s next appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We’re nearing the end of the Multiverse Saga, with just a handful of Marvel movies and series still to come in this phase. But it looks like their next big project will draw from another well-known part of Marvel lore.
After Tramell Tillman was cast in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest trailer confirms he’ll be playing William “Bill” Metzger, a Marvel character, in the upcoming sixth phase of the series. The trailer’s captions specifically identify him as “Metzger” when he speaks, after initially listing him only as “Bill.” You can see screenshots of the captions in the gallery below.
Zach Cherry, known for his role in Severance, joined the cast on August 20, 2025. Nexus Point News first reported on February 6th that Cherry will play the leader of Damage Control in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his character is opposed to mutants.
Reports indicated he signed a contract for multiple films, giving Marvel Studios the option to use him in future projects beyond his appearance in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline. His comic book character led a group against mutants, which may be the inspiration for the MCU’s version of the Department of Damage Control. It’s important to note that Damage Control originally started as a simple construction company in the comics.
With Sadie Sink, who is likely to play Jean Grey, appearing in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel seems to be setting the stage for a major focus on mutants after Phase 6. The X-Men reboot is currently being developed, with Jake Schreier directing.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters on July 31.
