Fans of the original Malcolm in the Middle are getting a new season! Hulu and Disney are releasing a revival, titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, and many of the show’s original actors are returning.
I was so excited to see the first sneak peek dropped on Monday, December 29th! It officially confirmed that we’ll finally be able to watch it on Hulu on April 10th, 2026. I’ve already marked my calendar!
The brief video shows Frankie Muniz reprising his role as Malcolm, now an adult, and reconnecting with his family after being estranged for more than ten years.
Malcolm starts the video by saying things are going great for him, explaining that all he needed to do to achieve this was distance himself from his family.
His brief moment of happiness is cut short when his parents, Hal and Lois (played by Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek), insist he come to their 40th wedding anniversary celebration, pulling him back into family obligations.
The upcoming event, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, will feature original cast members Chris Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Emy Coligado. However, Erik Per Sullivan won’t be returning as Dewey; the role will now be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark. The revival will also introduce new faces, including Keely Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter, alongside Vaughan Murrae and Kiana Madeira.
Earlier this summer, the actor best known for Breaking Bad shared why Erik Palladino decided not to reprise his role as Dewey on the show. He explained that he told Palladino the show was getting a revival, and Palladino was initially excited. However, Palladino quickly changed his mind, saying he didn’t want to return, but was happy for the show’s continuation.
Malcolm in the Middle’s Revival Subtitle Has a Special Meaning
The sitcom Malcolm in the Middle aired on Fox from 2000 to 2006, lasting for seven seasons. Linwood Boomer created the show and also served as a writer and executive producer. Bryan Cranston, Tracy Katsky from KatCo, Gail Berman, and Arnon, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann of New Regency all contributed as executive producers. Ken Kwapis directed the first four episodes and was also an executive producer.
A revival of Malcolm in the Middle was announced in December 2024, coinciding with the show’s 25th anniversary the following January. The new series will consist of four 30-minute episodes. Its title, “Life’s Still Unfair,” is a nod to a lyric from the show’s theme song, “Boss of Me” by They Might Be Giants.
Frankie Muniz shared a photo from the recent ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ reunion, excitedly hinting at new episodes. He admitted he wasn’t supposed to share anything yet, but the show’s theme song reminded him how much he misses his co-stars, Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson, and he couldn’t resist giving fans a sneak peek.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair debuts on Hulu on Apr. 10, 2026.
