June “Mama June” Shannon has an update on her health.
The former star of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo shared that she’s been dealing with health problems over the past year.
Mama June revealed she had an unexpected hysterectomy last April. Speaking on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea on March 3rd, she explained she was initially worried because some non-cancerous fibroid cysts had developed into separate cysts, causing a health scare.
The 46-year-old also shared that her worries increased after her daughter, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, passed away in 2023 after fighting cancer.
I really related to what Anna was experiencing, and I feared she might have ovarian cancer,” she explained. “I even shared that worry with my children. I spent a lot of time lost in my own thoughts about it.
Since then, June Shannon—mother to Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, and Jessica Shannon—has revealed she’s still managing some health problems unrelated to the menopause she’s also going through. She hasn’t shared details about these medical issues.
She admitted some days are really difficult, but quickly added that her challenges weren’t comparable to facing cancer. She often explains to others, ‘I know this won’t be fatal, but it could severely limit what I’m able to do.’
In addition to her own health struggles, Mama June and her daughters have leaned on each other as they grieved the loss of Anna.

To be honest, some days are better than others,” Pumpkin shared with Virtual Reali-Tea during a family interview. “I still find myself, especially late at night when I’m on TikTok, looking at Anna’s old videos.
Jessica also mentioned that whenever they played games they used to enjoy together, like Monopoly, her mother’s memory would come to mind.
Honey Boo Boo says the song “Pretty Little Poison” by Warren Zeiders always makes her think of Anna.
Alana said it always plays whenever they’re in the car. She lets the whole thing play, and won’t skip any part of it.
