James Gunn recently shared some important news about the making of Superman: Man of Tomorrow. As work on the sequel continues, he announced that someone who previously worked on Game of Thrones is joining the team, which will likely change how the movie looks.
James Gunn confirms cinematographer for Man of Tomorrow
When asked about whether Sam McCurdy was credited correctly as the cinematographer, James Gunn confirmed that he was. He specifically affirmed this was the case for the film Man of Tomorrow.
I was really interested to hear that Ben McCurdy is taking over as cinematographer. He’s replacing Henry Braham, who’s a fantastic DP and worked with James Gunn a bunch of times already – on Superman, both Guardians of the Galaxy volumes, and The Suicide Squad. Thankfully, this isn’t a totally cold collaboration, as Ben actually shot the Peacemaker series with Gunn. He’s been super busy lately, too, doing some amazing work on the Shōgun series and the film The Descent.
During the discussion, Gunn refuted claims that auditions were being held for Batman and Wonder Woman, stating plainly, “That’s not true. All those rumors are false.” He clarified that the significant casting announcement was for Brainiac, and explained that the film’s main roles largely feature characters audiences have already met. He added that they are currently casting for smaller parts.
Lars Eidinger, a German actor, will play the main villain, Brainiac, in the new Superman movie. David Corenswet is back as Superman, and Nicholas Hoult returns as Lex Luthor, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Director James Gunn has revealed that Superman and Lex Luthor will be forced to work together to combat a bigger danger – Brainiac.
The 2025 film Superman was a financial and critical success, earning $354 million in the U.S. and $615 million globally. Warner Bros. reported a profit of $120 million, and the film currently has an 83% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
