
Manchester United is reportedly working on a TV series similar to ‘The Crown,’ detailing the history of the club.
The Athletic reports that Lionsgate is developing a series dramatizing the history of the club.
Jed Mercurio, the creator of popular British shows like Line of Duty, Bodyguard, and Trigger Point, is reportedly discussing a new project, according to sources.
According to the report, if the show is made and sold to a TV channel or streaming service, Manchester United would receive a payment worth several million pounds.
United and Lionsgate have so far not commented on the story.
Manchester United is a hugely successful football club, boasting an impressive collection of trophies including 20 league titles, 13 FA Cups, six League Cups, and two Champions League titles, as well as a European Cup.

Last July, The Athletic reported that Manchester United ended discussions about a behind-the-scenes documentary with Prime Video.
As a movie critic, I’ve noticed a trend with sports documentaries lately. Manchester United isn’t alone in opening up to cameras – their rivals, like Manchester City, Tottenham, and Arsenal, have all been the subject of ‘All or Nothing’ style docs on streaming platforms in the past few years. It’s becoming a pretty common way for clubs to give fans an inside look.
Manchester United was close to signing on with the streaming service alongside other clubs, having agreed to a profitable deal. However, the plan was apparently cancelled because the then-coach, Ruben Amorim, opposed it.
Michael Carrick, who used to play for Manchester United, is currently the team’s interim coach. They are fifth in the Premier League but have been eliminated from all cup tournaments.

The Crown, a popular Netflix series that ran from 2016 to 2023, told the story of Queen Elizabeth II’s life and reign, covering everything from when she first became queen to recent events.
Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin, both known for their roles in The Crown, are teaming up again for a new Netflix series. They’ll star in a six-episode adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel, Pride and Prejudice.
