Mandy Moore Breaks Silence on Ashley Tisdale’s Toxic Mom Group Essay

Mandy Moore doesn’t like being tangled up in drama.

Five months after Ashley Tisdale wrote a popular essay about leaving a mom group she described as unhealthy – a group many fans believed included Hilary Duff and Meghan Trainor – the actress compared the negative reaction to other times she’s faced criticism in the public eye.

Mandy explained on the May 18th episode of Andy Cohen Live that this situation felt much more disturbing than anything she’d dealt with before. She emphasized that being a kind person is incredibly important to her, and it deeply bothers her when anyone questions her character or the people she surrounds herself with.

Okay, so Ashley wrote this essay, and she didn’t name names, but seriously, everyone knows who she’s talking about! She posted all these adorable pictures with Mandy, Hilary, and Meghan – they were always together, like, a real squad. And then she wrote about her ‘village of moms’ going from a support system to something totally explosive? It has to be them! I mean, come on, the timing, the pictures…it’s obviously about Mandy, Hilary, and Meghan. I just know it!

Mandy admitted she was initially surprised, but she stressed that she was ready and willing to address any resulting difficulties.

I generally avoid conflict, but I believe in addressing issues directly when they matter to me. If I’m upset or need to talk about something, I prefer to have an open and honest conversation with the person involved, in person.

The actress from Tangled explained that these kinds of experiences aren’t always easy, but she would have approached the situation differently.

Mandy was also bothered by the drama around Ashley’s work, feeling it negatively affected how women are seen.

She explained that the portrayal reinforces the tired and untrue idea that women are naturally competitive and unable to support each other. Since becoming a parent, she hasn’t experienced anything remotely like that at all.

Mandy, who shares three children – Gus, 5, Ozzie, 3, and Lou, 20 months – with her husband Taylor Goldsmith, was surprised by how much she connected with other parents. She said she’s formed really meaningful relationships with them.

And at the end of the day, Mandy is most passionate about supporting her fellow parents.

That’s always been my biggest realization,” she said. “Everyone needs a community and support system – somewhere to turn for help and someone to talk to about what’s going on in their life.

In January 2024, Bobby addressed speculation about a disagreement with Tan, two months after announcing he was leaving Queer Eye after eight seasons. (Bobby is pictured second from left.)

He assured Vanity Fair that he and Tan are doing okay. He explained they had a private matter to resolve, completely separate from their work on the show. He emphasized it was a personal issue that had been developing, and it wasn’t related to romance.

In March 2024, Tan addressed claims that he tried to get his friend Jeremiah Brent to replace Bobby on the show Queer Eye.

Netflix and the production team held extensive auditions. I didn’t recommend my friend for the role, but they ultimately landed it because they were the most qualified. I also want to be clear that I didn’t help them get the part by causing anyone else to lose out.

During a September 2023 game of “Stir the Pot” with her daughter Kelly Osbourne on TopMob News, Sharon Osbourne described actor Topher Grace as the rudest celebrity she’d ever encountered, calling him a “rude little boy” and a “dastardly little thing.”

He did not respond to her remarks publicly.

Five years ago, Sharon shared with Larry King that Ashton seemed upset during his 2014 appearance on The Talk because she had misspoken his name.

She remembered him asking, “Who are you and what have you accomplished in this field?” She responded sharply, telling him, “Don’t underestimate me, because I will completely overwhelm you.” She finished by saying, “You have no idea who you’re talking to.”

In August 2022, Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris publicly disagreed with Brittany Aldean, the wife of country singer Jason Aldean. This started after Brittany shared a video on Instagram showing herself applying makeup. In the caption, she thanked her parents for not allowing her to transition genders during a phase where she preferred traditionally masculine interests, stating she enjoyed her current feminine lifestyle.

In a 2022 TikTok trend, JoJo Siwa called Candace Cameron Bure the “rudest” celebrity she’d ever met, explaining that Bure once turned down her request for a photo on the red carpet. Shortly after, Candace Cameron Bure apologized, saying she unintentionally hurt JoJo’s feelings when she was younger and regretting not taking the picture. She expressed her sincere apologies to JoJo.

Okay, so they did reconcile, which was amazing! But then, someone asked Candace about whether Great American Family – you know, the network she’s in charge of creatively? – would ever have same-sex couples as the main couple in their Christmas movies. And honestly, it just broke my heart when she said no. She actually said they’re going to stick to what she called ‘traditional marriage’ as the focus. I just… I can’t believe it. It feels like such a step backward, and I’m so disappointed. I really thought things were changing, but apparently not at GAF.

JoJo, who publicly shared they are part of the LGBTQ+ community in 2021, said on Instagram that the actress’s remark was offensive and caused pain to many people.

In June 2021, Courtney Love claimed Olivia Rodrigo had copied the album cover art for her band Hole in a promotional photo without giving credit. Olivia responded with a simple, “Love u and live through this sooooo much.” Courtney then playfully replied, “Olivia – you’re welcome! My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! DM me for details! I look forward to reading your note [winking face emoji].”

While on Watch What Happens Live, the actor from Happy Days explained why he and the star of Forrest Gump didn’t get along while filming Turner & Hooch in 1989.

I directed the movie for thirteen days, and then Jeff Katzenberg, the producer, called me into his office and told me to pack up and go home, as I had everything I needed.

Winkler and Hanks’ dog seemed to get along very well. “I really loved that dog,” Winkler said.

He also refused to admit if he’s even seen the flick.

“You know what you did!”

Those who watched The Hills probably recall Lauren’s famous line from the start of season three. The drama between her and Heidi began when Heidi started dating Spencer Pratt. It escalated when Lauren claimed Heidi and Spencer spread a false rumor that she had made a sex tape with her boyfriend at the time, Jason Wahler.

Tyrese and Dwayne Johnson had a public falling out in 2017, starting with an Instagram post by Tyrese after the release date for Fast & Furious 9 was delayed to April 2020. On the same day, a spin-off movie featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham was announced, scheduled for 2019. The next month, Tyrese said he would leave Fast 9 if Dwayne Johnson was still involved.

Tyrese recently discussed the ongoing conflict with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, telling Van Lathan on the The Red Pill podcast that he still hasn’t spoken to Johnson directly, though they plan to. He did mention having a conversation with one of Johnson’s producing partners, but not with Johnson himself.

Tyrese admitted he often ended up voicing concerns for others involved with the franchise, and he regrets being the only one to publicly share those feelings. He acknowledges it was unprofessional and a mistake on his part.

No more bad blood here.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry were famously feuding for several years, with some believing the conflict inspired Taylor’s song “Bad Blood.” The disagreement, which began with issues over a backup dancer and during competing concert tours, ended when Katy sent Taylor an olive branch as a peace offering before Taylor’s Reputation Tour began.

Taylor Swift shared a video on Instagram explaining she found a real olive branch in her dressing room, saying it meant a lot to her.

Taylor captioned the video, “Thank you Katy.”

For years, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, stars of Sex and the City, successfully dismissed rumors of a disagreement. However, those rumors resurfaced when Kim chose not to participate in a third movie and subsequently made some pointed comments about her co-star.

During a September 2017 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Sarah Jessica Parker how she felt about Kim Cattrall telling Piers Morgan they had only ever been coworkers, not friends.

She said she was just devastated, explaining that they had talked about it all week. She was really bothered by something because her memory of what happened was completely different.

It’s upsetting, but I believe what truly connects us is the unique experience we all shared. It started as a job, but over the years it became something deeply personal. I hope that those years of creating something special, and the connection people felt with it, will outweigh any recent disagreements. It was a real privilege to be a part of.

And though they didn’t film scenes together, Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That.

Elton John and Madonna have been publicly disagreeing since 2004. The conflict began when Elton, while accepting an award, criticized Madonna’s live performances. He famously told the audience that he disagreed with her being called the best live act, questioning how lip-syncing could be considered a live performance and suggesting performers who lip-sync should face consequences, given the price fans pay for tickets.

The actress, formerly known for her role on Grey’s Anatomy, caused a disagreement with the show’s creator back in 2008 when she asked to no longer be considered for an Emmy Award. She explained that she didn’t think the storylines she was given were strong enough to deserve a nomination.

Shonda Rhimes discussed Katherine Heigl’s departure during a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter. She admitted it was both hurtful and expected. “I’ve learned to pay attention to people’s actions,” Rhimes explained. “When someone consistently demonstrates a certain behavior, you should believe it. That’s a lesson I’ve carried with me and it’s been very helpful.”

The fight between Nicki and Cardi at the Harper’s Bazaar Icon party during New York Fashion Week became a major news story. A month later, Cardi publicly explained what caused the argument with Nicki.

Cardi B recently told W magazine that another person has been repeatedly criticizing her. They had talked twice before and seemed to resolve things, but the criticism continued.

The conflict really escalated when Cardi B noticed Nicki Minaj had supposedly reacted to a tweet criticizing Cardi’s parenting, though Nicki claims she didn’t actually engage with it.

Honestly, I was set to make a huge amount of money from a tour with Bruno Mars, but I chose to stay home with my daughter instead. She means everything to me, and I truly believe I’m a great mom. It really bothered me that someone without kids would criticize my choices. People keep saying the party wasn’t the right place to see another artist, but let’s be real – I’m not likely to run into someone famous at the grocery store or just walking around town again!

The conflict between Kanye West and Taylor Swift began in 2009 when Kanye interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. While they later reconciled and became friends, their relationship deteriorated in 2016 following the release of Kanye’s song “Famous,” which included a reference to Taylor.

Just before the Grammy Awards in February 2025, Kanye West began following only Taylor Swift on Instagram. He didn’t offer any explanation for this action, and Taylor Swift didn’t publicly acknowledge it.

“I don’t know her.”

The rumored rivalry between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez began in 2003 during a German TV interview. When asked about Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey famously stated, “I don’t know her.”
