Mango Founder’s Son Arrested After Billionaire’s Fatal Fall From Cliff

Police are looking into the death of Isak Andic

Initially, the death of Mango’s founder in December 2024, after he fell from a cliff near Barcelona, was considered an accident. However, Catalan police later announced they were investigating the 71-year-old’s death as a possible murder.

More than a year after Isak’s death, his oldest son, Jonathan Andic, was arrested on May 19th in connection with the case. Reuters reports that the 45-year-old was seen in handcuffs entering a courthouse in Martorell, Spain, following police questioning.

A family representative confirmed that Jonathan was being questioned by authorities, but stated they firmly believe he did nothing wrong. They also said he is fully cooperating with the investigation and will continue to do so.

Meanwhile, a police spokesperson confirmed to Reuters the probe remains under seal.

Isak, originally from Turkey but raised in Spain, tragically died in December 2024 after falling approximately 500 feet from a cliff while hiking with his family. Jonathan was the only person who saw the accident happen.

In January 2025, a judge dismissed the case, finding no proof of criminal activity, as reported by Forbes. However, police later reopened the investigation that same year due to conflicting details in Jonathan’s story. Jonathan maintains his innocence and denies any wrongdoing.

TopMob News has contacted Mango for a statement and tried to get in touch with Jonathan’s lawyer, if he has one.

Mango now has over 2,900 stores around the globe. In 2025, the company achieved record revenue of nearly $3.8 billion, which is an 11% increase compared to the year before, according to CBS News.

In 1984, Isak launched the first Mango store in Barcelona. Over the following years, he built the brand into a well-known company and a major rival to Zara in Spain.

When the company’s founder passed away, Isak was Mango’s chairman (though not involved in day-to-day operations) and Forbes estimated his net worth at $4.5 billion.

After their father passed away, Jonathan and his sisters, Judith and Sarah Andic, received 95% ownership of Mango. The company’s CEO and President, Toni Ruiz, holds the remaining 5%. Toni Ruiz also became Chairman of the Board in January 2025 following the passing of Isak, with Jonathan appointed as Vice Chairman. Jonathan began his career with Mango in 2005 and took over leadership of the Mango Man division in 2007.
