Bungie recently added a popular feature to their extraction shooter, Marathon. A significant update earlier this week introduced the Cryo Archive, the game’s most challenging map. Players must complete a series of tasks before they can access it. Following the release of this difficult new location, Bungie has now added another feature that players requested even before the game launched.
The latest update to Marathon introduces a new duo queue option. Previously, players could only experience Marathon by playing alone or with a full squad of three. Many players who prefer playing with just one partner have been asking for this feature, and Bungie has now delivered.
Bungie is testing a new duo queue mode in Marathon, but it’s not permanent. After a two-week trial, they might remove it completely. For now, duo queue is only available on the Perimeter map, and players need to find a teammate in the game lobby beforehand—there’s no automatic teammate matching.
Will This Marathon Feature Become Permanent?

As a huge Marathon fan, I’m really hoping the duo queue stays around! Bungie says it’s not permanent right now, but honestly, it would be so strange to test it out, get a ton of positive feedback (like they have!), and then just take it away forever. Especially since they’re still working on building up the game and its player base in these first few weeks, it feels like duo queue is going to become a core part of Marathon for the long haul, and I’m totally here for it!
Marathon is still new, with more content planned for the future. A big update is expected in April, though the exact details haven’t been revealed yet.
