Bungie hasn’t announced a new release date for its upcoming game, Marathon, but they’ve revealed details for the next public playtest. From December 12th to 15th, players on both consoles and PC can sign up to participate. Even if you’ve played in previous tests, you’ll need to register again.
The playtest will run daily from 2 PM to 8 PM Pacific Time. Everything you see and experience during the playtest is confidential, and we ask that you don’t share any details publicly. Please submit all feedback and bug reports directly to our official Discord server. Currently, the playtest is only available to players in North America, and we appreciate the patience of those in other regions.
Early looks at the game, from private playtests, suggest Marathon has better lighting and a more user-friendly interface, plus some completely new levels. While Sony is still aiming to release the game by March 31, 2026, Bungie hasn’t shared details about how much it will cost or if there will be a public test. Since the playtest starts right after The Game Awards, we might see a new trailer revealed then. We’ll have to wait and see!
Alberto Mielgo, the director of the short film, recently confirmed that no AI was used in its creation. He explained that the entire film – including the paintings, animation, and visual effects – was crafted by a large team of 155 people working for many hours over months. He jokingly added that their biggest challenge was simply finding enough time.
