Good news for runners—or maybe a cause for concern! The Cryo Archive in Marathon is officially opening on March 20th. After a challenging puzzle-solving game where players defeated countless UESC bots, the colony ship is now open to visitors, thanks to Ben Starr, known for his work in Final Fantasy 16 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Cryo Archive is a challenging map designed for teams of players who have reached level 25 and finished the introductory missions for each of the game’s factions. To enter, your team’s equipment must be worth at least 5,000 Credits. Bungie provides a free starter kit with basic gear to help you get acquainted with the map’s enemies, but this is a one-time offer, so use it wisely.
This map features challenging puzzles similar to raids, but it’s primarily a player-versus-environment-versus-player zone, meaning other players are just as dangerous as the AI enemies. As you play, you’ll increase your Security Clearance, which is needed to open doors and successfully escape – along with fulfilling other conditions. You’ll also find seven Vaults, each requiring a specific key and the completion of other tasks to unlock valuable rewards.
Similar to Ranked mode, Cryo Archive is only open on weekends. So, during the week, you can focus on collecting Vault Keys from the other areas of Tau Ceti IV. You’ll have a better chance of finding them by tackling more challenging activities, and they’re also available during the Marathon event.
Each week, Cryo Archive offers limited-time Contracts you can complete. You can refresh these Contracts, but once finished, they won’t reappear that week. Despite being temporary, they’re a good challenge because they offer valuable rewards like rare items and keys. For longer-term progress, check out the Codex, which lets you unlock new skins for your Runner Shells by completing its requirements.
