Recently, Ice-T shared a photo from Season 27’s set, and Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni are reminiscing about their initial lines on the show, with their responses being truly noteworthy.
Hargitay and Meloni initially formed the core duo on “SVU.” They both appeared for the first time in the show’s premiere episode. As a devoted cinephile, I must say, the fact that they both managed to recall their very first lines uttered after a whopping 26 years is nothing short of remarkable! It’s safe to assume they’ve revisited the pilot numerous times over the years, but being part of something that significantly altered their lives is an entirely different ballgame.
It’s hardly surprising they remembered their lines since they must have etched themselves into memory. But what makes it truly delightful is witnessing their reactions to it and knowing that they nailed it all those years ago!
Another way to phrase this could be: Not only do Hargitay and Meloni recall every detail about their scenes, including lines, but it sparks my desire to revisit the very first episode again. Moreover, I find it fascinating that Hargitay’s initial line on SVU was simply “Olivia Benson,” hinting at her future iconic status, which remains strong even after all these years. At the time, they likely didn’t realize they would still be playing these roles decades later and become two of the longest-running actors in the Law & Order series, a fact that is mind-boggling to consider.

It’s fortunate that Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T had an immediate on-screen connection during their auditions for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which is a positive aspect. If Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler were portrayed by different actors, it’s likely that the show might not have lasted as long as it did. Thankfully, viewers won’t have to contemplate that scenario, and instead can anticipate potentially more scenes featuring their beloved characters in the upcoming season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, along with many more iconic moments.
You can expect a relatively short gap before Season 27 of “Law & Order: SVU” hits your screens.
