Both major mysteries left in Marshals season 1 have officially been solved.
Even though it started airing late in the 2025-2026 TV season, the Yellowstone sequel quickly became popular and topped the ratings charts. Because of this success, CBS didn’t hesitate to renew the show for a second season before the first season even finished. This allowed the creators to take a risk with the season one finale of Marshals, titled “Wolves at the Door,” which ended on a cliffhanger, leaving the futures of three key characters uncertain.
The first season of Marshals ended with a thrilling and suspenseful finale, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats with two major unresolved storylines. Calvin and Belle were unexpectedly attacked by Tom Weaver’s crew, and Monica’s son unknowingly flew away with the villain. Meanwhile, Kayce was completely unaware of these events, enjoying a carefree day with Dolly, the daughter of the show’s antagonist. Originally, fans would have had to wait until CBS’s fall 2026 schedule to learn what happens next, but recent news has already provided an update on the future of the characters.
Arielle Kebbel, who plays Belle in the CBS series Marshals, recently spoke with TVInsider at the ATX TV Festival and revealed details about the upcoming second season. According to Kebbel, the new season will pick up right where the first one left off, immediately resolving the cliffhangers. She also confirmed that both Belle and Calvin will survive the ambush, and the team will quickly mobilize to rescue Tate from Weaver. You can find her complete statement below.
Season two starts immediately after the events of the first season. Cal and Belle are both still dealing with the aftermath and are definitely affected by what happened. Honestly, Belle’s always finding herself in trouble – it’s almost become part of who she is. She gets injured a lot, but she’s incredibly resilient and keeps pushing forward.
What does this situation mean for both of us? With him right here, if either of us gets hurt, how will we escape?
A central idea of the show is the importance of family and the lengths people will go to protect them. Everyone is completely dedicated to bringing Tate home, and we’ll do whatever it takes. We already know Kayce will stop at nothing. The issue isn’t if they’ll go to extreme lengths, but rather where those actions might cross the line legally. Sometimes, doing what’s right doesn’t mean following the law.
Most fans are more focused on how Cal and Belle will escape their current predicament, rather than if they’ll survive. Given the popularity of Marshals and where the story is going, it was unlikely the show would kill off two main characters at once. While it’s good to have confirmation that they’ll both make it, it’s not exactly a shock – they will survive, but probably with some injuries.
The most significant development in season 2 of Marshals will be the quick unveiling of Weaver’s real motives. Because the show now functions more like a standard procedural, it has the flexibility to prolong the villain’s story. Rather than immediately showing his true colors, CBS could keep his evil intentions hidden, increasing the suspense. This approach would also allow the show to develop the growing connection between Kayce and Dolly, adding another layer of complexity if Dolly truly has feelings for him.
The first season of The Marshals ended strongly, capping off a successful debut for Taylor Sheridan’s first network television show. Now that viewers know the resolutions to the season’s cliffhangers, discussions can shift to the bigger picture: how Weaver will be stopped by Kayce and his team when the show returns in the fall.
