Marshals Season 2 Is “An Even Better Season” Promises Yellowstone Spinoff Star In New Release Window Update

Be aware, this article contains spoilers for the first season of Marshals! As the show’s popular first season comes to an end, Logan Marshall-Green shared some positive news about a potential second season.

The new series Marshals, a spin-off of Yellowstone, centers on Luke Grimes’ character, Kayce Dutton, who is asked by his former Navy SEAL teammate, played by Marshall-Green, to join a team of U.S. Marshals. This happens as Kayce is dealing with the loss of his wife, Monica. While reviews have been somewhat mixed, the first season of Marshals has been very popular on CBS, becoming the second most-watched broadcast show with over 16 million viewers, leading to a quick renewal for a second season.

Logan Marshall-Green recently discussed the future of Marshals with ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns. He revealed that the show is continuing, not ending, and that filming for season two began on Monday. Marshall-Green hinted that the season one finale will leave viewers with some unanswered questions, but assured fans that those questions will be addressed quickly, starting with the first episode of the new season. He also confirmed the show’s return date.

It feels like we’ve seamlessly continued where we stopped with filming – the quality and pace are just as strong. This season feels even better than the last, and I’ll let audiences decide for themselves when it airs this fall.

Marshall-Green recently shared details mirroring his previous statements about the second season of Marshals. He confirmed production started shortly before this interview and that the new season would continue directly after the dramatic ending of season one. As of now, the finale leaves several storylines open, including Kayce potentially selling East Camp to the Weaver Ranch, Ash Santos’ character Andrea receiving a job offer in Washington D.C., Tatanka Means’ character Miles being suspended, and Cal disclosing his cancer diagnosis to Belle.

The season one finale of Marshals, titled “Wolves at the Door,” will focus on Kayce defending Broken Rock chairman Rainwater after someone tries to kill him. Meanwhile, Cal and his team will work to uncover who is behind the attack. Rainwater has been a target since the beginning of the series, and if the threat goes beyond the mining company wanting to develop Broken Rock land, several characters could face uncertain futures in the finale.

A key highlight from Marshall-Green’s recent statements is the assurance that season 2 of Marshals will be even stronger than the first. Despite this optimism, the show got off to a rocky start, debuting on March 1st and unfortunately becoming the lowest-rated entry in the Yellowstone universe so far. Currently, it holds a 42% critic score and a 27% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Every season of Taylor Sheridan’s shows after the first has been well-received by critics on the review platform, though audience reactions have sometimes been more divided. The final season of Yellowstone only received a 41% approval rating from viewers, and the prequel series 1923 averaged 55% approval over its two seasons.

Having watched the first season, I wasn’t entirely sold on Marshals, but I’m cautiously optimistic about season two. Yellowstone proved that a show can really find its footing after a rocky start, and it seems the creators are listening to what viewers want – or don’t want. The good news is Taylor Sheridan isn’t abandoning this corner of his neo-Western universe anytime soon, with a fall return already confirmed. So, I’m predicting a solid rebound and plenty more Marshals action for the foreseeable future.

The Marshals season 1 finale airs Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
