Marvel Comics is about to drop some truly stunning variant covers in celebration of Pride Month.
New cover art has been revealed for several popular Star Wars comics, and fans are calling it one of the best Pride celebrations in the galaxy far, far away. The three connecting covers, all created by artist Rickie Yagawa, showcase a collection of well-known and beloved LGBTQ+ characters from the Star Wars universe.
Marvel Comics’ Star Wars Pride Covers are Absolutely Perfect
Throughout June, fans can collect special connecting covers featuring characters from the Pride celebration. The first cover will be available with Star Wars: Rogue One — Jyn Erso #1, hitting stores on June 3rd. Look for the second and third connecting covers with Star Wars: Shadow of Maul #4 (released June 10th) and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge — Echoes of the Empire #3 (released June 24th), respectively. These issues are created by Ethan Sacks and Ramón Rosanas, Benjamin Percy and Madibek Musabekov, and Ethan Sacks, Jethro Morales, and Roi Mercado.
Artist Rickie Yagawa expressed their excitement about the project, saying it was an honor to be involved. They shared that what they enjoy most about the Star Wars universe is its wide range of characters and rich history, and described the experience as both cool and meaningful.
Yagawa’s connecting comic book covers showcase more than a dozen popular characters from throughout the Star Wars universe, including Vildar Mac, Terec and Ceret, Mother Aniseya, Mother Koril, Tey Sirrek, Cinta Kaz, Vel Sarth, Sabé, Doctor Aphra, Just Lucky, Ariole Yu, Larma D’Arcy, Wrobie Tyce, Rae Sloane, Losha, T’Onga, and Sana Starros.
Okay, so these new Star Wars comics have a really similar vibe to the Marvel Voices books. They aren’t tackling the same stories or themes, but they definitely give off that same feeling of Pride and support that Marvel Voices always does with its yearly releases. It’s cool to see that representation in a galaxy far, far away!
Despite the special Pride covers, the Star Wars comics will still be action-packed. For example, Star Wars: Rogue One — Jyn Erso #1 will feature the heroine trying to escape from an Imperial prison in a daring move, and #4 will put the main characters in the middle of a dangerous podrace on the streets of Janix.
The third issue of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge — Echoes of the Empire will add brand new details to the larger Star Wars story. The first issue already did this, revealing things that fans didn’t even realize existed within the franchise.
