As a devoted Marvel film enthusiast, I couldn’t help but be captivated by the latest addition to the Marvel universe in “Thunderbolts” – a superhero whose darker side proved formidable enough to overpower the titular team. However, there’s one hero missing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe that fans believe could stand tall against the god-like Sentry. Lewis Pullman made his mark as Robert Reynolds’ Sentry in “Thunderbolts,” and also portrayed the menacing Void, a threat that left New York citizens trembling. Sentry effortlessly overpowered Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Alexei Shostakov, John Walker, and Ava Starr – the MCU’s New Avengers – without breaking a sweat. But one Marvel hero could potentially rise to the challenge.
In a discussion on Reddit, fans debated over who would prevail in a fictional confrontation between Sentry from Marvel comics and David Haller from the TV series Legion. Although many believed that Legion’s powers could outmatch those of Sentry, it remains uncertain whether such a battle will ever take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This is because, as of now, there are no indications of David Haller being introduced into the MCU or FX’s Legion series being incorporated into the franchise, which was connected to the X-Men film series by 20th Century Fox.

Why We Want to See Sentry & Legion’s Battle in the MCU

Dan Stevens played David Haller, the mentally ill mutant offspring of Professor X’s Charles Xavier, across all three seasons of Legion, aired from 2017 to 2019. His performance as the Omega-level reality-warping mutant was acclaimed, earning Legion recognition as one of the top-rated and most-watched X-Men spin-offs in recent times. The series showcased some of Haller’s extraordinary powers, even though it toned him down for live-action, restricting his abilities to a mix of psychic talents such as telepathy, telekinesis, and teleportation. In the comic books, however, he is known as one of Marvel Comics’ most potent and unforeseeable mutants.
Haller in Marvel Comics and David Haller in the live-action Legion series. Both Sentry and these characters deal with conditions like depression, trauma, and isolation, which manifest differently for each character – Sentry’s becomes the destructive entity known as The Void, while Haller grapples with dissociative identity disorder, and David Haller portrays schizophrenia in Legion. As a result, these characters aren’t typical heroes but rather antiheroes, and their extraordinary powers make them some of the most perilous entities in the Marvel Universe.
It could take some time before the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) introduces a new version of David Haller’s character, Legion – Professor X’s son – as his story might not be adapted immediately. Yet, envisioning a confrontation between the mind-bending Legion and Sentry, who possesses the power equivalent to a thousand exploding suns, promises an extraordinary cinematic event. This encounter would become even more impactful by highlighting their inner struggles as they wrestle with their own minds. However, given Legion’s immense power, it is likely that he would ultimately emerge victorious in such a battle.
