Marvel Netflix Star Confirms MCU Talks (and It Could Happen Soon)

The Marvel shows originally made for Netflix were incredibly successful, and Marvel Studios is now bringing those stories into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. It started with characters like Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) appearing in recent MCU projects like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye. The new Daredevil: Born Again series officially continues the story from the Netflix show within the MCU. And soon, the second season of Daredevil: Born Again will be released on Disney+, and it will incorporate Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones and the storylines from her Netflix series into the larger MCU.

Viewers who enjoyed the Netflix series The Defenders are wondering about the rest of the superhero team – Daredevil and Jessica Jones were two members, but who are the others?

While neither Luke Cage nor Iron Fist have appeared in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, we’ve learned that at least one of the actors who played those heroes is now discussing a possible transition.

Luke Cage’s MCU Debut Is Being Discussed

Mike Colter has shared that he’s discussed the possibility of reprising his role as Luke Cage within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with Marvel Studios. Speaking on the On That Note podcast with Shawn Stockman, Colter confirmed they’ve had preliminary talks about his return, stating, “I’ve had conversations… and I’ll leave it at that.”

Colter is choosing his words carefully, likely because he doesn’t want to make any promises he can’t keep – but this statement is still significant. For a long time, dedicated fans of his character, Cage, have been let down by his consistent reluctance to participate in future Marvel projects.

Mike Colter has repeatedly said he’s moved on from playing Luke Cage. In a 2023 interview with ComicBook, he stated he wasn’t considering any future Luke Cage projects and was happy to see another actor take on the role.

We observed a change in how Colter spoke about things when we talked to him again in 2024. As the Daredevil: Born Again series developed and former Marvel Netflix stars began joining the MCU, he became more receptive to the possibility of returning: “I’d be happy to explore it if they came up with a story and a way to make it happen,” he said. He also clarified, “I’m glad Charlie Cox and others are getting a fresh start, but I have no idea if Luke Cage will be rebooted, and I’m not keeping any secrets about it.”

By 2026, Colter fully understands his past experiences. He began to explain how time – and seeing his former co-stars working again – had shifted his feelings about potentially returning as Luke Cage.

I initially said no to returning, because while I enjoyed playing Luke Cage, I also want to explore different acting roles. I really appreciate the fans and the world of those shows, and it’s been a while now. I’ve been working on other projects, but I started to feel like there were still things left to do with Luke Cage. Now that Daredevil and Jessica Jones are both returning, I think the time is right to revisit that unfinished business.

Is Luke Cage’s MCU Return Happening in 2026?

Colter suggested in his closing remarks that a key factor in his potential return to Luke Cage is the speed with which a project could be completed.

We’re optimistic that things will happen more quickly than expected. I wasn’t hopeful before, but now I am, and I’m sharing that feeling.

In the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, the heroes of New York City will unite to oppose Wilson Fisk, who is using his power as mayor to crack down on vigilantes. Jessica Jones will join Daredevil in his fight, and the series is also setting up a significant role for Luke Cage.

At the conclusion of his Netflix show, Luke Cage established himself as the powerful, though unofficial, protector of Harlem. He controlled the criminal underworld but also defended the neighborhood and its residents from external threats. His help would be a major asset to heroes like Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

Apparently, someone at a convention last year – possibly Colter himself – hinted that Luke Cage might appear in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, and there’s even talk of a fight between him and Kingpin!

Colter joked that they hadn’t filmed a scene together yet. He explained that when Vincent starts acting, he completely transforms – he becomes someone else entirely, and that’s when things get intense. Colter is eager to act opposite him, even though he anticipates being a little intimidated, just like everyone else on set. He described the feeling as realizing, ‘Oh no, I’m working with Vincent today!’

Colter could reappear in future Marvel projects based in New York City if not immediately. Possibilities include upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day stories, the Punisher special, or even later seasons of Daredevil: Born Again and any shows that spin off from it—potentially leading to another Defenders team-up.

Now the only question left is: what will the MCU do about its Iron Fist?

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ on March 4th.
