It sounds like Sony studio Insomniac will be making Marvel games for many years yet.
In an interview with Game Informer, Haluk Mentes, the general manager of Marvel Games, called the developers at Burbank “close friends” and hinted that their partnership will continue for many years after the release of Marvel’s Wolverine next year.
He explained when asked about his philosophy leading Marvel Games:
We’re always looking for partners who share our vision, and like us, become known for quality work. A great example of this is Marvel’s Wolverine, developed with our long-time collaborators at Insomniac Games. We’ve worked with them for over ten years, and our close working relationship, built through several Marvel’s Spider-Man games, made them the obvious choice when we decided to bring Logan back in a powerful and exciting way. Our similar values and work styles are the foundation of our partnership, and we’re excited to continue working together for years to come.
Currently, Insomniac Games has only officially announced Marvel’s Wolverine. However, there are rumors suggesting they may be working on both a Marvel’s Venom spin-off game and a sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, potentially titled Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.
Leaked documents from the Insomniac hack mentioned a potential future Marvel X-Men game, but those plans could have been altered since then.
Insomniac appears dedicated to continuing to develop Marvel games for the near future, and that makes good business sense. Their Marvel’s Spider-Man games are some of the most successful PlayStation titles ever released.
