Marvel Teases a Deadpool vs Punisher Rematch 9 Years After Round 1

As a huge comic book fan, I always love seeing characters with totally different approaches thrown together, and few pairings are as exciting as Deadpool and the Punisher. Back in 2017, Marvel gave us this incredible, action-packed story pitting the near-immortal Deadpool against Frank Castle’s brutal methods – it was instantly a classic! Now, almost ten years later, Marvel is hinting at a rematch, and honestly, it looks like it could be the most explosive comic of the year. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this plays out!

Marvel dropped a new teaser on Monday hinting at an upcoming team-up between Deadpool and Punisher, two of their most intense and violent characters. The short teaser, which simply says “This won’t end well” and shows both heroes’ logos, directs fans to Marvel.com/616 on Tuesday, June 16th at 6:16 a.m. Eastern Time for a major announcement. Although Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed a crossover, the teaser strongly suggests one is coming.

A Deadpool/Punisher Crossover Could Be Great (Especially Now)

A team-up between the Punisher and Deadpool has always seemed like a fun idea, but now feels like the perfect time for it. Marvel writer Benjamin Percy is currently working on both the Deadpool and Punisher’s individual comic series, making him a natural fit to write a crossover event. With both characters currently featured in their own popular series, this feels like a logical next step.

It’s unclear exactly what a crossover between Deadpool and the Punisher would look like, but a recent teaser gives us some hints. The image shows Deadpool’s logo damaged with bullet holes and flames, while the Punisher’s skull logo has been vandalized by Deadpool, who wrote “Deadpool Rules!! Frank Droolz!” and drew large red X’s over the eyes. This suggests the two characters will be enemies, which isn’t surprising considering their very different personalities despite both being known for violence.

The release timing for this comic series is great! With Deadpool & Wolverine bringing Ryan Reynolds’ version of Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and rumors of his appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, plus Jon Bernthal recently debuting as Frank Castle on Disney+ and set to be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, both characters are getting a lot of attention. It’s a perfect time to feature them prominently in comics – especially with this story hinting at another unpredictable crossover where they might clash.
