Over the last month, Marvel has released four short previews for Avengers: Doomsday, building excitement for what’s being called the biggest Marvel event since Avengers: Endgame. The teasers, which initially appeared through leaks and exclusive theatrical releases, have now been officially revealed, featuring appearances by Chris Evans as Captain America, Thor, the original X-Men team, and a first look at the Wakandans and the Fantastic Four together.
Everyone’s been guessing when the next trailer for Avengers: Doomsday will arrive and who will be in it. However, there wasn’t a new teaser released this week (January 20th) – it’s the first time that’s happened since before Christmas 2025. While this breaks a pattern of regular releases, it’s not entirely unexpected. Usually, trailers appear online after leaking through showings in movie theaters, and that hasn’t happened this week.
Why It Makes Sense There’s No New Doomsday Trailer (& When Will The Next One Release?)

The Russo brothers’ recent, mysterious Instagram post about hints and stories within the Avengers: Doomsday teasers seems to have paused the intense marketing campaign, giving fans a short break before it picks up again. The teasers themselves were very successful, reaching a combined total of one billion views, indicating the marketing efforts have been effective so far.
As a big movie fan, I get why they’re slowing down on releasing trailers and clips. It’s tough to keep that initial excitement going week after week, and eventually, people start to lose interest. Plus, fewer and fewer people are going to see Avatar: Fire & Ash – which is where those teasers were playing – so that whole strategy just doesn’t make as much sense for Disney anymore.
This strategy helps build excitement for the next trailer release, and there’s a good chance we already know when it will be: the Super Bowl. Held on February 8th, the Super Bowl is a major event for both movie lovers and football fans, traditionally featuring a lot of new previews and teasers.
Marvel Studios almost always has a presence at the Super Bowl, with recent years featuring trailers for films like Thunderbolts, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. So, everyone expects them to be there again this year. Currently, Doomsday is the only movie Marvel is actively promoting (while Spider-Man: Brand New Day comes out in 2026, Sony is handling that film’s marketing, though they might choose to advertise it at the Super Bowl—though Sony usually doesn’t participate).
Now would be the ideal moment to reveal the biggest surprise from the Avengers: Doomsday trailers – Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom! As the most popular actor involved, saving him for a grand reveal makes perfect sense. While showcasing other unseen cast members would also be great, focusing on Doom aligns with the trailer strategy we’ve seen so far.
Bringing Robert Downey Jr. back would be a massive win, not just for dedicated Marvel fans, but also for people who only occasionally go to the movies and might not even know another Avengers film is planned. He’s the best choice to get those viewers excited. While it’s not certain, and Marvel could still surprise us, it currently seems like the most probable way they’ll build anticipation for the next big reveal.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters on December 18th, 2026.
