It’s a tall order to call any show the ‘best TV show,’ especially when talking about a powerhouse like Marvel. But X-Men ’97 has earned the title – it’s Marvel’s most popular project ever, even though it doesn’t take place in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it was quickly renewed for a second season after receiving an Emmy nomination! The new season promises to be even darker and more intense, though fans will have to wait until next year to see it. With original voice actors Lenore Zann, George Buza, and Cal Dodd returning as Rogue, Beast, and Wolverine, the wait is sure to be worthwhile.
During a recent interview with Collider, Ross Marquand, who stars in The Walking Dead, revealed that the show’s second season is going to be exceptionally grim. He was surprised Disney approved it, noting its intense darkness and high body count, which often goes unacknowledged within the show itself. He described it as “very, very dark.”
Marquand will continue playing the character Apocalypse in the next season, meaning he’ll have many scenes as the character. He described his costume as ‘rags,’ which he found a bit strange. Apocalypse, also known as En Sabah Nur in the comics, is a powerful leader and the mastermind behind the Four Horsemen – a group that Gambit later joins.
What Can We Expect From Season 2?

Could Gambit be back from the dead? A recent scene after the credits of the “Tolerance Is Extinction” storyline shows Apocalypse lamenting loss and destruction, seemingly after Gambit’s demise. This has led fans to speculate that Gambit might return next season as Death, one of Apocalypse’s four Horsemen.
Look, details are still pretty scarce, but if you were holding your breath wondering if *X-Men ‘97* would make it past season two, you can finally exhale. It’s official: we’re getting at least a third season! While we don’t have a release date just yet, I was happy to hear back in May that Lenore Zann – the voice of Rogue – was already back in the recording booth, which is a really good sign!
