Insomniac Games fans have a lot to look forward to, starting with Marvel’s Wolverine, a brand new story featuring the popular hero. Reports also suggest that games based on X-Men and Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 are being developed. However, many are still wondering about the status of a potential Venom game, which was previously rumored and would have allowed players to control the character from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Although never officially confirmed, many assumed a sequel was planned, given the amount of information revealed in the developer’s data leak (excluding details about the planned single-player DLC and live service game, The Great Web). It hadn’t been announced, which seemed odd. In a YouTube interview with Love It Film, Nadji Jeter, the voice of Miles Morales, shared that a sequel was indeed being considered, but the project was ultimately cancelled following the death of Tony Todd, who voiced Venom.
Jason Schreier from Bloomberg reported on ResetEra that the information wasn’t accurate, though it wasn’t clear if he was referring to the cancellation itself or the stated reasons for it. Until Insomniac Games officially comments, people will likely continue to guess about what happened with the project.
We’ll be learning more about Marvel’s Wolverine this spring, and pre-orders will likely start soon after. The game is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 on September 15th. However, it’s unlikely to be released on PC, similar to Saros and Ghost of Yōtei.
