After four years with no updates, we’ve finally seen official gameplay for *Marvel’s Wolverine*. The game was originally announced back in 2021 alongside *Marvel’s Spider-Man 2*, surprising fans who weren’t expecting a Wolverine title. While a new Spider-Man game was anticipated, Wolverine came as a complete surprise. Since then, there’s been little to no news about the game, leading to growing impatience among fans – until now.
In 2023, Insomniac Games suffered a security breach that resulted in early, unfinished gameplay footage and story details for their upcoming game, *Marvel’s Wolverine*, being posted online. A playable version of the game was also leaked, which was a significant setback for the studio. This led to concerns that Insomniac might need to make substantial changes to the game. While it’s unclear if a full rework happened, the game did experience some development shifts, including a change in directors last fall when the original director was replaced by another developer at Insomniac.
Marvel’s Wolverine Reveals First Gameplay
Recent rumors proved true: a new trailer for *Marvel’s Wolverine* was revealed at the end-of-September State of Play event. The trailer gave fans a much better look at the game’s story, Wolverine himself, and the intense action players can expect. It’s become clear the game is aiming for a mature (M) rating, featuring significant violence and gore.
In *Marvel’s Wolverine*, Logan will investigate mysteries from his past, and along the way, he’ll encounter familiar Marvel characters like Mystique. The game promises a thrilling, action-filled, and often brutal experience with impressive, large-scale environments. Trailers show Wolverine using his claws to quickly descend buildings, pursuing enemies on his motorcycle, and even leaping into traffic while on the move.
Insomniac Games is working on something exciting! They’ve hinted at a new reveal in spring 2026, before the planned fall 2026 release of *Marvel’s Wolverine*. Development seems to be going well, and fans are hoping the game will be worth the wait next holiday season.
