MCU Fans Think They’ve Worked Out Who This Stranger Things Star Is Playing In Spider-Man: Brand New Day & It’s Perfect

A popular new idea suggests that the latest actor from Stranger Things joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be playing a well-known character from the Spider-Man: Brand New Day comic series. The movie, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and set for release on July 31, 2026, will feature returning stars like Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and Michael Mando, as well as introduce new faces. While some casting choices remain a mystery for this Phase 6 film, a recent theory offers a convincing explanation for one of them.

Everyone is eagerly awaiting news about the roles Tramell Tillman and Liza Colón-Zayas will play in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but Sadie Sink’s casting has generated even more buzz. Sink is famous for her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things on Netflix, and her impressive work in films like Fear Street and The Whale, plus her Broadway performance in John Proctor is the Villain, suggests she’ll be a valuable addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though Marvel hasn’t revealed her character, a photo shared online by @UnBoxPHD has led fans to speculate she might be playing Rachel Cole-Alves.

Sadie Sink Would Be Perfect For Rachel Cole-Alves in the MCU

Rachel Cole-Alves is a relatively new character in Marvel Comics, first appearing in 2011’s The Punisher #11. A former Marine Sergeant, her wedding day was tragically attacked by followers of the villain known as the Owl, and she was then hunted by a shadowy group called the Exchange. They killed everyone at the wedding except Rachel, who spent months recovering before dedicating herself to getting revenge on the Exchange. This quest led her to cross paths with the Punisher, who was also investigating the organization. They worked together on several occasions in the years that followed, even after Rachel was jailed for taking the law into her own hands—until the Punisher ultimately broke her out of prison.

Jon Bernthal is coming back as the Punisher, Frank Castle, in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day series. He previously appeared in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again and had his own standalone special. There’s been talk that the Punisher will team up with a young female partner, and many fans think Rachel Cole-Alves is the likely candidate. Recent photos of Sadie Sink on set – showing her in military-style clothing and boots – have fueled this theory, as it aligns with Rachel’s background. Plus, both women are known for their red hair.

A quick look at Sadie Sink’s costume in Spider-Man: Brand New Day suggests she won’t be playing Jean Grey, Gwen Stacy, a different version of Mary Jane Watson, or Mayday Parker. The military-style outfit indicates her character has a background in the armed forces, and Rachel Cole-Alves seems like a perfect fit for the role. We’ll likely find out soon who Sink is playing, but it would be great to see her character and the Punisher, Frank Castle, become a regular team!
