With the launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater looming imminently, Konami is already considering what’s on the horizon. In a chat with Game Informer, producers Noriaki Okamura and Yuji Korekado discussed potential plans for the development team behind Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, should the upcoming remake be well-received.
In their efforts for the remake of “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater,” both Okamura and Korekado aimed to preserve the authenticity of the original. Yet, they recognized the need to modernize it by making adjustments in the control scheme to make the game more approachable for today’s players who might find the original a bit challenging.
In discussing the update of ‘Metal Gear Solid 3’ for ‘Delta’, Okamura and Korekado shared their surprise, especially in terms of development, when they revisited and modernized this game. They mentioned that even without any changes to the original concept, the game still had numerous appealing aspects, charm, emotion, and more, making it just as captivating now, despite being 20 years old.
In regard to the development process for remaking “Snake Eater,” they were curious if the GameCube remake of the original “Metal Gear Solid,” known as “Twin Snakes,” had any impact on their approach. Interestingly, the developers confirmed that there was no connection between their work on “Delta” and anything they had learned from “Twin Snakes.
They stated that Twin Snakes didn’t specifically influence the decisions regarding Delta. In other words, while developing each game, there are numerous lessons learned, but this time around, nothing distinctively related to Twin Snakes was found to have an impact. The remake of the game is essentially a complete overhaul, with only minor changes from the original version.
Regarding future endeavors at the studio, the producers have expressed a desire to explore various other games after the launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. They’ve hinted that their next project could potentially revisit the Metal Gear series, but for now, they are primarily focused on the release of Delta. As for remakes, their attention is mainly on Delta at this time.
Regarding ideas for the Metal Gear series, they mentioned that at present, their primary focus is on the current situation and finding a way to attract both old fans and potential new ones. They are currently dedicated to delivering Metal Gear Delta optimally for the current generation. After its release, if players express a desire for more content, they will then think about exploring other games in the series.
