SNK is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the classic run-and-gun game Metal Slug with a new website and a look back at the series. They’ve also hinted at something called “Mission Reboot,” suggesting exciting things to come.
To mark the 30th anniversary of Metal Slug, the series is being revived with several new projects, including brand new games, according to the official website.

Here is an overview of the series, via the special website:
30 years and still running.
When Metal Slug arrived in arcades in 1996, its impressive pixel art and cheerful, playful style made it stand out from other games.
I’ve been totally hooked by how amazing this game looks! Seriously, the characters are hilarious and move so realistically, and when those huge machines blow up, the whole screen just shakes! It’s so easy to pick up and play, and the action is non-stop. No wonder it was a hit back in the arcades and when it came to home consoles – it’s a classic SNK title for a reason!
Thirty years later, the Metal Slug series is still going strong and constantly improving. It’s a game that keeps on delivering action, and doesn’t show any signs of stopping anytime soon.
Strap in and stay tuned for what lies on the horizon!
