4A Games just released the first trailer for Metro 2039, and according to writer Dmitry Glukhovsky, it’s more intense and bleak than previous installments. The trailer introduces the new main character, known as the Stranger, who appears to be traveling through the dangerous, radioactive ruins while hearing broadcasts from a group called the Novoreich.
Okay, so I’m back in the Moscow Metro, but it’s seriously changed. This time, all the stations are supposedly united under this guy called Hunter, who’s basically running the show like a dictator. It should be a good thing, but honestly, it feels way more oppressive. And it’s messing with my character – I’m having these really disturbing nightmares about kids being snatched up and put on trains, and it’s like they’re being brainwashed or something. It’s creepy and feels connected to what’s happening in the Metro.
Why is this man always in chains? What causes his terrible nightmares, and why did the Stranger promise to stay away from the Metro? Regardless of the reasons – and the arrival of the Dark Ones is a very bad sign – he eventually wakes up in Moscow and makes his way down into the underground Metro system.
I’m so excited for Metro 2039! It’s coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC this winter. The developers, 4A Games, are using the same engine as before, but they’re really doubling down on what makes the Metro series special. Apparently, it’s going to be even darker and more atmospheric than ever, and every choice you make will actually matter. I can’t wait!
