Actor and writer Michael Patrick has died at the age of 35, it has been confirmed.
The actor, known for his roles in popular TV shows like Game of Thrones and Blue Lights, passed away on Tuesday, April 7th, at the Northern Ireland Hospice. He had been living with motor neurone disease since receiving a diagnosis in 2023.
Naomi Sheehan shared the devastating news on Instagram, writing that she and her family are utterly heartbroken.
Many people have said that Mick inspired everyone he met, not just during his recent illness, but throughout his entire life.
He truly lived a full life, brimming with happiness, a generous spirit, and a contagious laugh. He was a larger-than-life man, easily recognized by his fiery red hair.
Patrick played a rioter in season six of the popular HBO fantasy show, Game of Thrones. He’s also appeared in the series Blue Lights and This Town, and co-wrote the BBC show My Left Nut with Oisín Kearney.

He performed in many Royal Shakespeare Company productions, including roles in plays like Measure for Measure and The Taming of the Shrew.
In 2024, he reimagined Richard III with Kearney, adapting the work with his own illness in mind.
He starred in a production at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast, and his performance was so impressive he received the Judges’ Award at The Stage Awards 2025.
He told BBC News that in Shakespeare’s play, Richard III is born with physical deformities. This was supported by the discovery of his skeleton in a car park, which showed evidence of scoliosis.
We’ve revised the play’s opening so Richard learns he has a serious, worsening illness – similar to Motor Neurone Disease.
Jimmy Fay, executive producer at Lyric Theatre Belfast, honored Patrick after his death, saying in a statement, “A brilliant artist has left us, but tonight, the stars shine a little brighter with his presence.”
Fay said that Patrick, who was from Belfast, had been part of the Lyric family for many years.
Fay shared that Mick faced his MND diagnosis with incredible strength and grace. Despite his challenges, he continued to be determined and produce inspiring work.
Everyone at Lyric is deeply saddened by his loss and extends heartfelt sympathy to his wife, Naomi, his mother, sisters, and all who knew and worked with him.
