Michael Turner’s Fathom and Soulfire Light Up Stunning Ekos Vol. 2 Cover (Exclusive)

Michael Turner and Geoff Johns first conceived of the world of *Ekos* a while ago, but it wasn’t until *Ekos Vol. 1* that their vision truly came to life. That volume reintroduced fans to the character Grell, and hinted at future appearances with other heroes created by Turner. Now, *Ekos* is returning with *Ekos Vol. 2*, and we’re excited to share a first look at a beautiful cover featuring characters from *Fathom* and *Soulfire* before the project launches on Kickstarter.

Check out the stunning new cover for *Ekos* Vol. 2 by acclaimed artist David Nakayama (known for his work on *Wonder Woman* and *Harley Quinn*). While Ron Grell is taking a step back, Aspen and Grace will be taking the lead on this project. The cover will be featured in an upcoming Kickstarter campaign launching October 21st – you can find a link to the campaign here.

Michael Turner and Geoff Johns’ Fantasy World is Back and Even Better

As a long-time fan, it’s fascinating to learn the backstory of *Ekos*. Apparently, it started as a potential project way back in 2003! *Wizard* magazine ran a poll to see what Turner should work on next, and while *Soulfire* won, *Ekos* did get a small 6-page preview released. For years, that was all there was! But then, thanks to Aspen Comics and David Maisel – a founding chairman at Marvel Studios, no less – *Ekos* Vol. 1 finally came out. Now, we’re getting the second chapter, and it sounds like it’s going to tie in even more with Turner’s other popular creations, which is really exciting!

The second volume of *Ekos* will feature more scenes with the characters Grell, Aspen, and Grace, marking the first time these three storylines have converged. The cover hints at this exciting development, and we’re eager to see what the creative team has planned. JT Krul is writing *Ekos* Vol. 2, with artwork by Alex Konat, inks by Mark Roslan, colors by Peter Steigerwald, and lettering by Josh Reed.

Although Greg Smallwood stepped back from illustrating this specific cover, he remains the main character and focus of the *Ekos* series. In a previous conversation with ComicBook, writer Josh Maisel hinted that future issues will feature Grell encountering characters from the wider Aspen Comics universe created by Frank Turner, but the story still revolves around Grell.

Maisel explained that the character Grell was a valuable addition because he’s unlike the other, more human-like figures. Grell’s unique perspective allows readers to experience the world with fresh eyes, as he learns about Earth alongside the story’s progression. Through his interactions with characters like Grace, Aspen, Malikai, Benoist, Cannon, and The Black (and later, The Core), Grell is essentially experiencing humanity for the first time. Maisel emphasized that the book doesn’t offer any lessons or preachiness; instead, it focuses on observing and understanding the world through Grell’s eyes and the dynamics between all the characters. More details about *Ekos* Vol. 2 can be found below.

Volume 2 of *Ekos* picks up where the story left off, following the new hero Grell as he explores the world of Ekos. He teams up with popular characters from Michael Turner’s creations—like Aspen (from *Fathom*) and Grace (from *Soulfire*)—on a common quest. This is the first time these characters have all appeared together in one universe, and this volume continues their adventure as they face challenges in their worlds and a major conflict with humanity.
