Michael Weatherly Celebrates Tony And Ziva As A ‘Beautiful Remnant’ Following Cancellation, But Fans Aren’t Giving Up The Fight For Season 2

For over twenty years, the NCIS series has been incredibly successful for CBS, growing into a whole universe of shows, including the original NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and NCIS: Sydney. However, not all the spinoffs will continue – Tony & Ziva has been cancelled. This disappointed many fans who were excited to see Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo return as their beloved characters. Despite the cancellation, some fans are still hoping for a change of heart, as they expressed in response to a recent post from Weatherly about the Paramount+ series.

To celebrate the holiday season, Michael Weatherly took to Instagram with a message addressed to “Everyone Who Came to The Party… Love, Tony & Ziva. Merry Christmas.” He went on, writing in the caption of a photo with him posing with Cote de Pablo:

A lovely piece of history, a completed journey – all ten episodes of T&Z are now available, safely preserved like a treasure under a tree.

The show, which had ten episodes, premiered in early September and released new episodes weekly for Paramount+ subscribers. Although I enjoyed the first three episodes even without being familiar with the original NCIS series, it appears viewership wasn’t high enough for a second season. You can see a post from Michael Weatherly about the show here:

One reason fans believe the NCIS: Tony & Ziva series was cancelled is that it was only available on Paramount+, limiting its reach. Another factor was the significant gap in time since Tony and Ziva were popular on the original NCIS and their return in the spinoff. Some viewers also thought the show appealed to an older audience that wasn’t well-represented among Paramount+ subscribers.

No matter why people are upset, fans are still hoping the show continues, as seen by the hashtag #SaveTonyandZiva in the comments on Michael Weatherly’s Christmas post. Here are a few examples of what they’re saying (slightly edited for readability):

  • sere_balistrieri89: “We’re not going to stop fighting for your return. ❤️❤️❤️❤️”
  • tonyandziva_it:We’ll never give up on [Tony & Ziva].”
  • paola_763: “It’s a fantastic gift to treasure forever, in the hope that there will be a sequel…thank you so much Michael and Cote 😍”
  • sotea_1996:Save the show. Save the show.”
  • dee_singtothelord: “We are so thankful for this season, still hoping that we see your characters again soon!! It was over way too soon. We are fighting to change their minds. Hopeful we can, if not, we hope to see you guys back together in some other way!.”

Following the December 19th announcement that Tony & Ziva wouldn’t be continuing on Paramount+, a petition started on Change.org titled “Reverse the Cancellation of NCIS: Tony and Ziva.” As of December 29th, the petition has gained 1,091 signatures. It’s using the existing hashtag #SaveTonyandZiva to rally support and asks for the show to be renewed.

Look, Paramount+, you absolutely need to give us a second season of NCIS: Tony and Ziva! The fans – and believe me, there are a lot of us – are passionately devoted to this show, and we deserve to see more. But it’s not just about pleasing us; it’s about investing in a genuinely good story and supporting the incredible people who make it happen. Bring Tony and Ziva back for another adventure – and if you’re with me, please sign the petition to let Paramount+ know we want more!

It’s currently unclear if strong fan demand could bring back Tony & Ziva. NCIS: Origins showed that audiences are interested in NCIS shows that aren’t the typical crime-of-the-week format, and it did well on CBS. Could a second season of Tony & Ziva, potentially moving to CBS, be a winning formula? It might be a great show to air during the summer when other NCIS series aren’t on.

Right now, we’re just guessing what will happen next, but it doesn’t seem likely that the show will be renewed and move to CBS. However, fans who are hoping for a second season – the #SaveTonyandZiva campaign – don’t appear to be giving up. With the show on a break from CBS until late February, expect to see a lot of discussion about the possibility of a Season 2 in the coming weeks.

You can currently watch all ten episodes of Tony & Ziva on Paramount+, along with every season of Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’s original NCIS series. It’s entertaining to think about them potentially appearing on NCIS in the future – maybe in 2026 – to resolve any remaining storylines from their spin-off, but whether Tony and Ziva will return remains to be seen.
