A version of Forza Horizon 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 later this year. However, Microsoft probably wishes it had been ready for the console’s launch next month to generate even more excitement.
The impressive sales of Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation 5 – over five million copies in under a year – really highlights how well the game has performed on the platform.
The number had been mentioned before, based on reports from Alinea Analytics, but now a more trustworthy source – the official support developer for the game, Virtuos – has confirmed it.
According to Virtuos, Forza Horizon 5 was a huge success on PlayStation 5 in 2025, selling over 5 million copies and receiving excellent reviews – it earned a Metacritic score of 92.
Considering the hype surrounding Forza Horizon 6 – set in Japan and launching on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026 – releasing a PlayStation 5 version at the same time would likely generate even more buzz.
With over 40 million players enjoying Forza Horizon 5, expectations are high for the new Forza Horizon 6. Microsoft is anticipating a significant sales increase when the game launches on PlayStation 5 later this year. Importantly, any expansions released for the game will be available on PS5 at the same time as on Xbox and PC, allowing for combined sales figures across all platforms.
Xbox leaders have noticed it’s strange that Forza Horizon 6 isn’t available on PlayStation 5 at the same time as Fable, another game made by the same studio. They plan to address this issue with future releases.
Ultimately, our capabilities are limited by available resources. We’re focused on delivering the best possible experience for each platform and game we work on,” explained Craig Duncan, head of Xbox Game Studios.
