For years, MLB The Show has been the go-to baseball game, but now it has competition. Konami’s eBaseball: Pro Spirit 2026, a PlayStation 5 exclusive, is launching globally on July 16th and aims to challenge its dominance.
This Japanese baseball game has become increasingly popular, especially among content creators, as people have become less interested in the current baseball games made by San Diego Studio.
For the first time, this will be widely available worldwide, featuring English menus and explanations from Josh Lewin.
A free version of the game came out earlier this year, letting players try it out. Now, the complete game is available, including all game modes and features, for $59.99 or £39.99.
Here’s what the blurb from the publisher says:
Feel the thrill of truly realistic baseball with the eBaseball Engine. The game brings the stadium to life with incredibly detailed movements and sounds. You’ll experience everything – from the way the ball flies and players move, to the energy of the roaring crowd – all brought to life with stunning realism.
The game will feature a ton of single player modes, as well as competitive online gameplay.
The highlights for solo players include:
- Season
- Where you’ll make strategic decisions on and off the field to build a dynasty.
- Star Player
- An alternative to Road to the Show, where you’ll create your own baseball player in your preferred position and take them to the big leagues.
- Hakkyu No Kiseki
- A campaign mode where you’ll train and recruit high school students to build the ultimate collegiate powerhouse.
Okay, so just to be clear, this game doesn’t have the official MLB license, which means you won’t be able to play with teams like the Yankees or Dodgers. But the good news is it will include all the teams and players from Japan’s NPB league, which is awesome!
It’s frustrating, but it appears World Baseball Classic content is currently only available in Asia, likely because of complex licensing agreements. Despite this, the overall offering still seems quite good.
Baseball content creators are already excited about this new release. The Scann, a popular MLB The Show player on YouTube and Twitch, shared that he’s eager to start creating videos and streams with it, and many others feel the same way.
This is good news for virtual baseball fans. If Konami’s baseball game becomes popular globally, it will push San Diego Studio to improve their game as well.
