
Disney’s streak of successful live-action remakes of its animated films continues with the first live-action adaptation of a Pixar movie. The trailer for ‘Moana’ is now available, featuring Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson returning as the demigod Maui.
What’s the Moana trailer about?
Disney’s new live-action version of Moana tells the story of Moana (Catherine Lagaʻaia) as she embarks on a journey beyond her island home, Motunui. Guided by the legendary demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), she sets out to save her people and bring prosperity back to their land. The trailer offers a first glimpse of this reimagined adventure, showcasing the beautiful island of Motunui, its lively inhabitants, the mischievous Kakamora, and introduces audiences to Moana, powerfully declaring, “I Am Moana.”
Who’s in the Moana trailer?
Alongside Lagaʻaia and Johnson, the movie “Moana” features a talented cast including John Tui, who was born in Auckland, New Zealand, as Moana’s practical father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams, of Samoan and New Zealand heritage, playing Moana’s fun and determined mother, Sina; and Rena Owen, originally from Bay of Islands, New Zealand, as the beloved Gramma Tala.

The film is directed by Thomas Kail, the Emmy and Tony Award-winning director of “Hamilton.” Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia, and Lin-Manuel Miranda produced it, with Thomas Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth, and Auliʻi Cravalho – the voice of Moana in both “Moana” and “Moana 2” – serving as executive producers.
