Mortal Kombat video games are still incredibly popular, but the movies haven’t generally been well-received by critics.
The 2021 film added a new character, Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan, who wasn’t in the original games. However, this new lead didn’t quite connect with fans, and many expressed a desire to see more of the established, beloved characters in future installments.
The latest installment delivers what fans have been hoping for: exciting new cast members! Karl Urban, known for his role in The Boys, and Adeline Rudolph from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are joining the team as popular characters Johnny Cage and Kitana.
While opinions are mixed – our review gave it two stars and called for the series to end – this latest film seems to be resonating with audiences better than previous installments. It currently has a 74% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Here’s a complete update on the cast – including both new and returning members.

Karl Urban is best known for playing Billy Butcher in The Boys, but he’s also appeared in many popular science fiction and fantasy projects. Some of his other notable roles include Éomer in The Lord of the Rings, Vaako in the Riddick series, and Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in the Star Trek films. He’s also had parts in The Bourne Supremacy, Dredd, Thor: Ragnarok, and the TV show Almost Human.
Adeline Rudolph as Kitana

Kitana is a character from the video games who appears in the film seeking revenge. She was enslaved by the villain Shao Kahn and forced to battle for the realm of Outworld, and is known for her distinctive blue sash.
Adeline Rudolph is best known for playing Agatha in “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” and Minerva Marble in “Riverdale.” She also appeared as Billie Wesker in the 2022 Netflix series “Resident Evil.” Her other film credits include roles in “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” and the recent horror movie, “Do Not Enter.”
Tati Gabrielle as Jade

Jade is an important character from the games and a close friend of Kitana since childhood. She fights using a steel staff.
Besides working with Kyle Rudolph, Tati Gabrielle is known for her roles in several popular TV shows, including “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” (as Prudence Blackwood), “The 100,” “You,” and “Kaleidoscope.” She’s also appeared in video game adaptations, playing Nora in season 2 of “The Last of Us” and having a role in the “Uncharted” movie.
Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn

Shao Kahn is a brutal warrior and the self-proclaimed leader of Outworld. He conquered Kitana’s father, King Jerrod, and enslaved Kitana when she was young. Now, he’s determined to take over Earthrealm.
While Martyn Ford is famous as a bodybuilder, he’s also appeared in several films and TV shows. Some of his most notable roles include appearances in Kingsman: The Golden Circle and F9, and more recently, he’s had leading roles in the TV series Those About to Die and House of David.
Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade

Sonya Blade is a fighter determined to prevent Kahn from winning the tournament. She teams up with Cage to accomplish this.
Besides this film, Jessica McNamee is known for her work in Australian television, including popular shows like Home and Away and Packed to the Rafters. She’s also appeared in films such as Battle of the Sexes and The Meg, and has a role coming up in Evil Dead Wrath scheduled for release in 2028.

Mehcad Brooks as Jax

Jax is a highly trained soldier with metal arms, and he’s working with a team to defeat Kahn.
I’m a big fan of Mehcad Brooks, and I’ve noticed he’s been in a lot of great shows! Besides Supergirl, he’s also had roles in popular series like Law & Order and even And Just Like That. It’s cool to see him popping up everywhere!
Lewis Tan as Cole Young

Cole Young is the main character from the recent Mortal Kombat movie. He was created specifically for the film and isn’t part of the original Mortal Kombat games.
Lewis Tan started his career doing stunts, but he’s become well-known for acting. He’s famous for playing Rusty/Shatterstar in both Deadpool 2 and the new Deadpool & Wolverine movie. You might also recognize him from TV shows like Shadow and Bone, Cobra Kai, and Wu Assassins.
Mortal Kombat II is released in cinemas on 8 May.
