Most Overpowered Builds In Elden Ring

Recent updates to Elden Ring have significantly changed the game, effectively ending the dominance of many previously overpowered strategies. While some builds are no longer as effective, this has encouraged players to explore new and creative approaches, shifting the focus to different, viable strategies.

Right now, several powerful character builds in Elden Ring can still easily overcome the game’s hardest parts. Whether future updates will weaken these builds remains to be seen, but currently, they’re the best way to become an Elden Lord.

The is a powerful weapon in Elden Ring, but its special attack that quickly causes bleeding doesn’t last very long on its own. However, if you hold the left trigger while using the attack, it will keep spinning like a chainsaw, rapidly draining your stamina.

Focusing on Endurance, along with Strength and Dexterity, will give you a lot more Stamina, letting you use the Spinning Wheel weapon art frequently and quickly defeat bosses. Unlike many builds that rely on Bleed, this Ghiza’s Wheel strategy doesn’t require high Arcane. However, you can still improve the weapon art’s effectiveness with certain talismans and spells.

Wearing the head armor and talisman will significantly increase your bleed damage. This setup boosts the power of the Spinning Wheel skill, lowers its initial FP cost, and makes you less likely to be staggered during combat.

Increase your Faith stat to 25 so you can use several helpful self-buffs: one for increased weapon damage, another for both damage and defense, and a third for even more damage. Also, get the appropriate item to break boss defenses more quickly, and then start the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC to find the Viridian Cracked Tear, which gives you unlimited Stamina for 10 seconds.

If you put these parts together, Ghiza’s Wheel can defeat almost any enemy in the game, unless they’re immune or resistant to bleeding damage.

I’ve been having a blast with this build – it’s all about lightning! This character does most of their damage with lightning spells, and if you’re trying to save on FP, you can just boost your weapon with Electrify Armament. But the real power comes from the Dragon Lightning incantations – they absolutely melt bosses! Especially if you’re using gear from the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, which makes your Ancient Dragon spells even stronger with each piece you equip. It’s seriously a game changer!

Incantations remain effective throughout the entire game, but to maximize your spellcasting, you’ll need strong Faith-based weapons. Once you’ve defeated the final boss, be sure to trade its Remembrance with Enia to obtain . This weapon skill is the best for dealing area damage in Elden Ring, and it works especially well with a build focused on Faith.

While magic builds are known for quickly defeating bosses, strong melee builds can do the same – they just need more preparation. This build focuses on Strength and involves stacking buffs before charging in, jumping, and delivering a powerful jumping attack with both hammers.

When at full health, begin by using a drink from your Physick flask – combining the Opaline Bubble and Winged Crystal Tears. Then, cast , and follow up with . Landing both hammer attacks with a jumping strike will deal massive damage and quickly stagger almost any boss.

The ‘Shield Poke’ strategy in Elden Ring focuses on using shields alongside piercing weapons like spears and rapiers. This allows players to attack with their weapon while still keeping their shield raised for defense, effectively combining attack and defense into one fluid motion.

The Shield Poke build focuses on making your character incredibly durable – a nearly unstoppable force that slowly but surely closes in on enemies and defeats them. It does require a lot of stamina to maintain a shield and attack, particularly when taking damage from enemy attacks. However, you can overcome this by using helpful Talismans, carefully positioning yourself in combat, and investing heavily in your character’s Endurance stat.

This shield is central to this build, offering exceptional physical defense and blocking power that can effectively stall bosses when paired with the right stats. When used with the appropriate sorcery and talisman, it provides ample protection to withstand even the most powerful attacks.

This build offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to your main weapon. You can use many different thrusting or poking weapons, including options like the , , , , and many others. The Cross-Naginata is particularly good because it’s easy to find and has a versatile moveset, making it useful throughout the entire game, even if you’re not using a Greatshield.

This ability is really helpful because it activates both a core mechanic and a damage-increasing effect from a specific item, giving you a significant 30% damage boost for a short time. Players typically use this boost during challenging fights against bosses or tough enemies, or in player-versus-player combat.

Players are combining powerful enhancements to significantly boost their damage output, making it possible to defeat challenging bosses in Elden Ring much faster.

  • At least 80 Faith to get more damage out of the Wave of Gold (scales with FAI)
  • Strength 14, and Dexterity 22, to equip the Sacred Relic Sword

While many powerful builds in Elden Ring focus on general gameplay improvements, some are designed for very specific tasks. The Sacred Relic Sword Farmer is one such build, specifically created to maximize Rune acquisition.

This build, using the Ash of War on the Sacred Relic Sword and equipment that boosts Rune acquisition and Weapon Skill damage, allows players to quickly earn millions of Runes each hour. The best place to farm them is at Mohgwyn Palace – start at the Palace Approach Ledge-Road Site of Grace and find the large group of Albinaurics gathered on the nearby slope.

Boost your stats, use a specific item, and then quickly defeat groups of enemies using a Weapon Skill. Repeat this process by resting at a safe point and doing it again – you should earn a large amount of Runes with each cycle. This strategy is best for quickly gaining Runes from many weak enemies and isn’t recommended for player-versus-player combat or challenging boss fights.

Scavenged Bleeder

A Great Dual Bleed Build With Style

Starting Class Bandit/Vagabond
Weapon(s)
  • Dual Occult Scavenger Curved Sword

  • Golden Vow
Stat Priority
  • Arcane (60/80)
  • Vigor (prioritize 50/60)
  • Dexterity (prioritize 40/50)
  • Faith (as needed for buffs)
  • Endurance (as needed for medium weight)

If you want a straightforward build that’s effective against all enemies, even those resistant to Bleed, the Occult scaling is a good choice. To maximize its power, you’ll ideally need two Occult scaling weapons, which means either completing the game again or relying on other players to share them through item drops.

To maximize damage before a fight, quickly apply the buff to both of your weapons and drink a Physick Flask. Then, use a powerful jumping attack (usually performed by pressing LB/L1) to start building up the Bleed effect, causing significant Hemorrhage damage very quickly.

If an enemy can’t be affected by Bleed, focus on upgrading your weapons with both and before using jumping power attacks. While you won’t cause Bleed, your attacks will still deal significant damage. Luckily, most enemies in Elden Ring are vulnerable to Bleed.

Magma Pyromancer

  • Vigor (prioritize 40/50)
  • Mind (as needed for casting)
  • Endurance (as needed for medium weight)

Although fire-based builds were often less popular than lightning-based ones, this particular build is surprisingly effective. It focuses on repeatedly using just a couple of skills and incantations.

Using either the dual Magma Blades or against most enemies, including bosses, will quickly knock them down and defeat them. For especially strong or single opponents, is particularly effective.

Don’t forget to use buffs and flasks to make your character even stronger. If you’re building an Incantation character, you’ll have quick access to powerful spells like Golden Vow and Flame, Grant Me Strength, which can greatly improve your defenses and attacks before you start casting spells.

For this powerful Elden Ring build, you can use two Giant’s Seals or two Magma Blades (and hold a Giant’s Seal in your off-hand). The main way you’ll defeat enemies is with spells, so prioritize upgrading your Cerulean Tear flask to have more uses.

As a Strength build fan, let me tell you, this Berserkinspired build is seriously strong – maybe even a little too* strong! It’s all about wielding a massive Colossal Greatsword. Basically, you just keep swinging that thing, and once enemies are stunned, you go for the finishing blow. It’s super effective and honestly, a lot of fun!

This build excels at stunning multiple enemies or tough bosses. It’s also incredibly effective when played solo, without needing any summons. The Berserk-themed armor provides exceptional defense, and focusing on its strengths makes you a nearly unstoppable force, perfectly embodying the character of Guts.

This character build focuses on using the charged version of the weapon, which spins rapidly like a drill. The longer you charge it, the longer it spins – similar to how the Elemer of the Briar boss attacks. There are many ways to boost weapon skill damage and repeated attack damage in Elden Ring.

Using the Shard of Alexander will boost the damage of your Ash of War. The Godfrey Icon makes your charged drill attack even more powerful, and Millicent’s Prosthesis, along with the Winged or Rotten Winged Sword Insignias, will increase damage the faster you hit enemies with the drill.

When combined with items that boost damage from repeated and charged attacks, using Eochaid’s Dancing Blade just once can often deal significant damage to enemies, or even defeat them completely.

This weapon takes some practice to master, and leaves you open to attacks from the sides while you’re using its special skill. However, the effort is well worth it. It’s similar to a Flail build, but even more powerful, making it one of the strongest non-status effect builds in Elden Ring.

This character build combines the power of magic and close-quarters combat. You’ll use Frost spells alongside the Moonlight Greatsword, a top-tier weapon in Elden Ring, making for a very strong and effective character.

This build functions similarly to other Frostmage setups, but focuses more on spellcasting and combat. Rather than repeatedly using a basic spell, players will primarily use ‘s powerful attack to launch projectiles.

Okay, so Glintstone Icecrag isn’t my main go-to, but it’s really useful. I’ve found it’s best to open with another spell and then hit those big, tough bosses with Icecrag. It’s also great for bosses that are quick and like to dodge around – it helps me land a hit when they’re moving fast!

Players who created this character build are confident it can defeat enemies in a single hit, but setting it up requires a precise and fast series of boosts. When fighting bosses, follow these instructions quickly and carefully – timing is essential!

First, put on the helmet. Then, cast the spell repeatedly until the Madness effect activates and your health gets low. After that, switch back to the helmet and cast Golden Vow.

First, select the target. Then, apply Poison to them using an ability that also grants the Mushroom Crown buff. Lastly, cure the Poison with boluses.

Once you’ve finished all the setup, immediately go to the boss and use your main attack. If the boss survives or moves into their next stage, use Ancient Dragon Lightning Strike again. For normal enemies, a simpler attack like Lightning Spear is usually enough – you don’t need to bother with complicated preparations.

With the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, a remarkably powerful build has emerged in Elden Ring. It centers around the Backhand Blade – used dual-wielded for a unique moveset – combined with buffs to significantly boost attack power and defensive strategies to keep you safe.

The Backhand Blade doesn’t naturally cause bleeding, but adding Blood affinity and having at least 40 Arcane significantly boosts both its damage and how quickly it builds up Bleed. Its dual-wielding moves are very fast, often causing Bleed to activate before you finish a single attack combo against most enemies.

To make this character build even stronger, use a specific item in your off-hand, and consume a potion while equipping a certain weapon. This combination increases damage with each attack, and the potion helps ensure you have enough stamina to dodge after performing long attack sequences. The off-hand item boosts damage whenever Bleed status is applied nearby.

The Deflecting Hardtear is a powerful addition to the Flask of Wondrous Physick. Combined with skillful use of the Backhand Blades, players can effectively block almost all attacks in Elden Ring. While challenging to learn, mastering this technique is crucial for creating top-tier melee builds in the game.

As a fan of this build, I’ve found that using the right gear really boosts my Jumping Attacks – they’re awesome for quickly getting into a fight!

Okay, so they’ve toned down how much ‘s poise damage breaks enemies, which means it’s not quite as ridiculously strong as it used to be. But trust me, it still hits really hard! It’s a lot like what we saw with Blasphemous Blade builds – you’re going to have to rely on Moonveil’s weapon skill, especially the heavy attack version, to deal a ton of magic damage while staying at a safe distance. It’s still the way to go to maximize its potential!

The Moonveil katana is excellent for players who focus on Intelligence and Sorceries. If you need a quick attack before an enemy reaches you, Moonveil’s weapon skill is very fast and effective.

The Moonveil katana causes a little Bleed damage and can be used with another katana for dual-wielding attacks, as long as you don’t become too heavy. To really boost your Bleed build-up in close combat, try using it alongside a Scavenger’s Curved Sword or Rivers of Blood. Just remember to keep a staff handy so you can still cast spells when necessary.

This popular build focuses on instantly defeating enemies with a powerful, magical beam – a sort of ‘Kamehameha wave’. The strategy involves boosting your power with certain abilities, using a special potion called the ‘Physick Flask’, and then unleashing an 8-second, continuous beam that can significantly damage or even defeat a stationary boss.

For even more damage, do some Seppuku with a modified Uchigatana until low HP to trigger the ‘s buff.

This is likely the strongest fire paladin build currently available. It focuses on maximizing the damage of the weapon skill, resulting in incredibly high fire damage that’s boosted even further by using specific talismans.

To deal the most damage, ensure your HP is full before using the weapon skill. While Radagon’s Soreseal increases damage output but lowers defenses, this can be offset by using a buff. Combining that buff with the skill will significantly increase Taker’s Flames’ damage.

In Elden Ring’s player-versus-player battles, nothing is more dreaded than two Rivers of Blood weapons. Players can obtain a second one by starting a New Game Plus or trading with a friend. When combined with the right armor, talismans, and other equipment to maximize bleed damage, this combination is incredibly difficult to defeat.

Bleed damage is very strong against enemies that can bleed, but almost ineffective against those that can’t. While the Rivers of Blood dual-wield build is just decent in player-versus-environment (PvE) content, it becomes exceptionally powerful in player-versus-player (PvP) combat and in areas filled with human-like enemies.

This character build is effective from the beginning and scales well into the late game. Players begin with a specific weapon, capitalizing on its long-range attack that deals Holy damage. As the game progresses, this weapon can be replaced with another, which also features a powerful and easily exploited attack skill.

The Queen’s Black Flame ability surrounds the player in a swirling vortex of black fire, dealing significant area-of-effect damage and lowering enemies’ maximum health. When combined with other black flame spells and the Godslayer’s Seal, even bosses with a lot of health will quickly fall to the power of Godslayer’s Black Flame.

Recent updates have made bleed attacks very effective, perhaps too effective. Players can now use a specific weapon skill, Ritual, to deal significant damage – often exceeding 10,000 points – which is enough to defeat bosses with minimal use of energy (FP).

What makes Mohg’s spear great is its ability to be used with a shield while still being a strong, piercing weapon. Rivers of Blood and similar weapons are also very effective, especially when you increase your Arcane stat, making them ideal for smaller fights. Keep in mind this strategy isn’t very effective against enemies immune to bleeding, so choose your battles carefully.
