It’s been almost two years since the animated series My Adventures With Superman aired on Adult Swim and Cartoon Network. The show, starring Clark Kent, is coming back soon, and hints suggest we’ll see several popular DC comic book characters for the first time. The premiere date has been announced, along with details about season three’s storyline, which will adapt the ‘Reign of the Supermen’ arc and introduce both new heroes and villains. Get ready, DC fans – this season promises to be epic!
A recent report from Entertainment Weekly confirms that season three of My Adventures With Superman will premiere on Adult Swim on June 13th. The new season will adapt the “Reign of the Supermen” storyline from DC Comics, which features multiple new heroes stepping up after the apparent death of Clark Kent in a fight with Doomsday. While showrunner Jake Wyatt didn’t explicitly say if Superman will die in this season to make way for characters like Cyborg Superman and Superboy, he did acknowledge the comic book arc heavily influenced the upcoming story.
The Supermen Are Coming
Wyatt, a key figure with the show, clarified that Adult Swim intended to create a third season of My Adventures With Superman all along. He explained that while the studio was on board, they needed to find a way to make it financially feasible. Jack Quaid, who voices Superman, also shared his enthusiasm for the new season and thanked fans for their patience, calling it “really great,” “really funny,” and emphasizing that the stakes are higher than ever before.
Fans who saw season two will remember Hank Henshaw, who eventually becomes the Cyborg Superman. He was originally presented as a regular human, before transforming into one of Superman’s most dangerous enemies. In a recent interview, Wyatt confirmed that the show will begin with the fully formed Cyborg Superman, suggesting we won’t see his origin story unfold gradually. Interestingly, the first glimpse of the villain shows him with an “L” shield instead of the usual “S,” implying he’s been created by Lex Luthor in this version of the story.
Regarding the comic book inspiration, Jake revealed the writers studied the storyline that introduced characters like Cyborg Superman, Superboy, and Steel, but they’re making significant changes. He explained, “We’re not simply retelling the comic, but we wanted everyone to be familiar with the source material.” The show is focusing more on the question of what defines Superman, rather than directly adapting the ‘Death of Superman’ storyline. He added that the interesting part of the ‘Reign of the Supermen’ arc is seeing different characters with similar powers but contrasting beliefs. As for Doomsday, the show hasn’t confirmed whether the seemingly unbeatable villain will appear in season three, which would be a departure from the comics where he initiated this storyline.
Cyborg Superman, Superboy, And Steel, Oh My

Before the new season began, Adult Swim teased the introduction of Connor Kent, also known as Superboy, who will have his classic 1990s appearance in the show. During a recent interview, producer Wyatt discussed Superboy, explaining that they’ve updated the character to better connect with the existing cast. Superboy will represent the conflict between optimism and fear for the future. According to Wyatt, Superboy quickly became a favorite among the writers and artists, and his storyline will become increasingly complex throughout the season.
I’ve been following My Adventures With Superman, and it recently introduced John Henry Irons, who fans know as Steel, much like the character Hank Henshaw. According to a recent interview, while Steel will appear in the upcoming season, his role will be smaller. The creator hinted that if the show gets another season, Steel will be much more prominent. They’ve got some ideas for his story! Season three will also focus on three other versions of Superman from the ‘Reign’ storyline. As for the fourth Superman, Eradicator, the creator didn’t share any details, so we’ll have to wait and see if that character, known for wearing glasses, shows up this summer.
