My Hero Academia Confirms Release Date for Anime’s Return After Finale

Although the main story of My Hero Academia seemed to finish with a special anime episode this spring, the series will return for another special later this summer. The eighth and final season of the anime concluded last fall, but fans were surprised to learn the story wasn’t over. This new special will show what happens after the finale, giving viewers a glimpse into the future of Deku and his friends as they become adults.

Fans were surprised to learn that My Hero Academia will continue with a new short anime, even after the manga concluded. This short will adapt additional material created by the manga’s author, Kohei Horikoshi, and takes place after the epilogue. It’s scheduled to premiere in Japan on August 3rd.

My Hero Academia Anime Returns With New Short August 2026

I was so excited to see the new My Hero Academia short, “I am a hero too!” It picks up right after the amazing Episode 170+1 special, “More,” and it’s based on those five pages Kohei Horikoshi released in the Ultra Age fan book. Basically, it gives us another glimpse into the future – about eight years after the big war with All For One and Shigaraki. It’s really cool to see a little more of what Deku’s life is like as a pro hero, and we even get to see Eri all grown up and preparing to chase her own dreams! It’s a fantastic little addition for any fan.

The short film “I am a Hero Too” will be released in Japan on August 3rd and is expected to become available on various streaming platforms soon, though international plans haven’t been revealed yet. Select fans will get an early look at the film at Anime Expo 2026 this July. Luckily, it shouldn’t be long before all fans can experience this special final chapter in the My Hero Academia story.

What’s Next for My Hero Academia?

The new My Hero Academia short will cover the last content from Kohei Horikoshi’s manga, but the series is also celebrating its 10th anniversary. Fans are hoping the studio will continue creating content, even after the main story ends. The recent timeline featuring grown-up versions of the heroes would be a great opportunity for an original movie to expand the universe.

Even if the new My Hero Academia movie is delayed, fans can still enjoy more content! The prequel series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, finished its second season with hints of a possible third season, which we’re eagerly awaiting news about. In the meantime, you can watch everything My Hero Academia has to offer on Crunchyroll and Hulu.
