The anime series My Hero Academia has concluded with a special final episode that provides a satisfying ending, especially for its main romantic storyline. Following the end of the eighth and final season last fall, this extra episode shows what happens to Izuku Midoriya and his classmates eight years after their victory over All For One and Tomura Shigaraki, giving fans a glimpse of the heroes as adults.
The final episode of My Hero Academia shows that while the world is now peaceful, Deku and his friends haven’t had much time to consider their own futures. They’ve been so focused on their hero work that they’ve neglected their personal lives. The episode culminates in both Deku and Ochaco realizing they want a deeper connection with each other and have been putting off building that relationship.
My Hero Academia Finally Makes Deku x Ochaco Official

Episode 171 of My Hero Academia begins after the events of Season 8, eight years after the battle with All For One. Deku has been working as a professional hero for several months, aided by the support suit created for him. Meanwhile, Ochaco has focused on helping young people with quirks integrate into society. Both have been incredibly busy with their work, and haven’t had much time to think about anything else, even after all this time.
Ochaco has been struggling with guilt since Himiko Toga’s death during the war, but she’s starting to understand that Toga would want her to enjoy life. She realizes Toga would encourage her to follow her own desires, and Ochaco acknowledges she’s been suppressing her feelings for Deku. She initially did this to stay focused on the war, but now, with things calmer, she can finally think clearly. Deku feels similarly – while he always thought of Ochaco as special, he never had the time to fully consider how much she meant to him.
Is This a Good Ending for Deku x Ochaco?
The last scenes of My Hero Academia show Ochaco and Deku reconnecting and expressing their desire to spend more time together. While they don’t directly confess their feelings, it’s evident they were finally able to be honest with each other. My Hero Academia hasn’t traditionally focused on romance, but Ochaco’s feelings for Deku have been developing since the beginning of the series.
Ending the story with a sweet moment for their relationship really highlights the hopeful future for Deku and Ochaco. More than anything, the ending focuses on them finally being able to relax and explore a potential romance now that they’re no longer constantly battling life-or-death threats in school. It’s a breath of fresh air, and exactly the kind of satisfying conclusion that My Hero Academia fans wanted.
