While it wasn’t as memorable as John Travolta’s famous mispronunciation, Nate Bargatze stumbled over his words a little bit while hosting the 2025 Emmys.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of *The Golden Girls*, Nate Bargatze began to introduce a tribute act, correctly announcing “Please welcome Reba McEntire,” but then unexpectedly brought someone else onstage.
He then mentioned Kerry Fairchild – “Fairchild!” he corrected with a smile – and Kimberly Schlapman from Little Big Town.
Anyone could have made that mistake in the excitement of the moment. It wasn’t a major gaffe like when John Travolta mispronounced Idina Menzel’s name as Adele Dazeem during the 2014 Oscars.
Everyone deserves thanks for their professionalism, but the singers really stole the show when they started performing the “Thank You for Being a Friend” theme song from *The Golden Girls*. (You can find a complete list of the 2025 Emmy winners here.)
Before that, Bargatze shared some funny observations, pointing out that the old NBC show was actually a bit more daring than many recall. He joked that as a kid, his parents wouldn’t let him watch the scenes with the character Blanche.
As a lifelong fan, I’ve always said that beyond the hilariously naughty jokes, Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia, and Rose are just truly unforgettable characters. It’s amazing to think it’s been 40 years since they first appeared on TV, and we still adore them!
Schlapman went on to say, “To the characters and the actors who played them, thank you for being our friends.”
Then, Fairchild had the pleasure of announcing the nominees for best supporting actress in a comedy series.
Which was won by Hacks‘ Hannah Einbinder and there were no further pronunciation issues from there.
